Sears has a 3 ton floor jack on sale (along with a few extras - 3 ton jack stands, creeper seat, booster cables, lug wrench, work mat and tire chocks) for $89. 99. The jack lifts to 19 3/4 inches. Is this a heavy enough jack for the 2500 Cummins? What about lift height? There seems to be a pretty big price jump when the jack is rated above 3 tons.

Jack

I have a 2 1/2 ton jack I bought on sale for $50. 00 at Wally Mart. It works just fine.

The Sears deal sounds like a good one. I'd get it if I were you.

Good luck.

This isn't really what you asked but just for general info. I have a 2 ton jack that is not a cheap import and it will not lift the rear of my 3500. Guess I will look into that Sears deal.

Jack

I got the Sears 3 1/2 ton floor jack with the jack stands. I think that the 3 ton didnt have enough height for my truck, 2500 4x4 but the 3 1/2 did. I think that my garage floor to axle height was about 18 or 19 inches. The 3 ton may work on a 4x2, but I went bigger as i was in doubt.

I may be wrong though, I only had 2 hours sleep last night LOL. the 3 1/2 ton had no problem lifting my truck.

Jack, I have that 3 ton jack. It works fine, plenty of lift power and height. Make adjusting rear brakes easy, just put it under the differential and lift the back end easily.

I got two of those 3-ton jobbers from Harbor Freight for tipping the dually on its side and rotating the tires. Shipping can be tough if you don't have a commercial address to ship to.

Thanks for all the input. I'm heading down to check Sam's before I lock into a jack. The deal at Sears is good, although the "extras" thrown in with the deal seem to be lightweight and maybe not that useful. I would really prefer a 5 ton long body jack, but a good deal may sway me to a lighter weight jack.

Sam's Club in Lexington, KY has a huge supply of 3 ton shop-style floor jacks, with the Michelin brand name on them, for $59 each. Really nice quality, and that name on there sure don't hurt anything...

I picked up one of those Michelin Brand Floor Jacks a Month ago that Briar's talking about.

Good Jack and it will lift up my heavy 2500.

I have two Sears jacks. The one is maybe 1. 5 tons and works real smooth. Had that for ten years of so. The other one is at least three tons, I foget now. Anyway, the three ton job is not smooth at all. I really need to crank on it to tighten then when I release it, it is real touchy to try to ease it so it does not slam down. Lots of slop in the pumping action too. You sometimes get what you pay for.

Like Briar Hopper said, the Michelin at Sam's is a really nice 3 ton jack. Padded saddle, 21 inch lift with the speed lift to load and a six foot handle. Sweet. I have a Craftsman 3 ton but like this Michelin better.
