Most dealers first one is FREE. I think MOPAR helps with the money on that one,in facr almost SURE there is FACTORY reimbursment on first oil change. I get the NORMAL mailouts from my dealer and a oil & filter change with MOPAR 15w40 and filter is $54. 00 and tax. Not too bad for 12qts of oil and a factory filter. At 15k I'm going to Amsoil 15w40 and 15k oil changes as per the BOOK!
54$ for a filter that cost 15 from Cummins. ? Ron Bissett in Metro Louisville KY:--)

And HOW MUCH for a valve adjust if it was a 12 valve that needed it done?? $200. 00! The gasket is reusable for many thousands of miles and I bet the flat rate times is about 2 hours tops. How do they figure $200. 00 unless they charge $90. 00 plus per hour. I do my own(SLOWLY do to NO experience and it dosen't take two hours in the BACKYARD!:-{}

This is about what my 30K maintenance cost. When I looked at their itemized bill could only shake my head. That's when I decided to start doing the work myself.

When compring 30k services from dealer to dealer etc. Ask what is done item by item and price item by item. Its the only way to compare apples to apples.

My dealer wanted to "flush the injection system" at the 30,000 mile service. :eek:

Not long after I was asked by the dealer to never come back; since I was using firm language expressing my disgust over the three times they've damaged my truck in three visits.

For my fellow midwestern'ers; that's the Dodge dealer on L st. Guess I'll be commuting to Blair (40 miles one way) for those VERY RARE dealer services. Those are limited to NON ENGINE; NON DRIVETRAIN; warranty work. Everything else I do myself or hire experts; not the dealer.

Incompetent dealers are why I decided to 'eck with the warranty and bomb it like I want it.

I go into a dealer and get to know a service writer and shoot the bull. Even meet a tech or two etc. Always get EXCELLENT service. Just went to the D. C. store over my older brothers 93 Caravan with a crashed auto and got the Service manger to nego labor and then to the parts manager and with a little arm twisting ordered a reman auto at wholesale price. Labor quoted was $580 discounted to $420 and trans retail was $1800 and change discounted to $1343 and then REQUESTED a good tech they have(gravy job)who looked at me with a smile and said I'll take care of you and thanked me and said need anything on eaither one of your trucks? Sometimes its all in how its handled. Caravan being towed 75 miles to them. I priced independent shops and none would come close to that price or warranty(3/36) at any D. C. store nationwide. Some of the independents quoted as high as $3300!!! with a fraction of the warranty:DI also MEET the SERVICE manager and ask if we can have a business conversation about whatever and it usually turns into excellant service.
