:{ Well ijust got my 3500 truck back from the dodge dealership in Santa Clarita at the cost of,[ now this is for a 30,000 mile service and a 4x4 alignment with a 10% discount], $1066. 00.

I had just finished my install of the DRC race suspension, and I had 29,400 miles on the truck, and since I needed a oil change anyway I decited to drop it off and get the 30,000 mile service along with the alignment. "Man what a lot of cash to drop on the truck", I'm glad that I dont need to do this again for another 30,000 miles. This includes the diff's, the tran's, the transfer case, the engine oil, the engine flush, the battery service, and all other fluid's and etc...

I hope this keep's this truck in warranty.

Engine flush at 30K????????????????

Battery service?????????????????

$1066. 00??????????????????/

You got ripped dude!!!!!!!!!!

Don't mean to flame just calling a spade a spade!!!!!!!!!!!

Mac

Battery service?????????????????
Sure... batteries need to be rotated, just like tires... even wear, and all that. For that amount, I hope they performed a battery alignment as well.

Let's see... oil change, $40 and 15 minutes. Transmission fluid/filter change, $50 and 30 minutes. Front/rear diffs, $50 and 30 minutes. Transfer case, $20 and 15 minutes. "Battery service" (what - cleaning the terminals?) - 15 minutes. Fluid check (wiper fluid, coolant, brake, PS fluid), $10 and 15 minutes. $170 in materials, and 2 hours of labor. Under $400 for everything, plus maybe $150 for the alignment.

I went purposefully high on both fluids and time estimates. So where's the other $500 in services?

Now you see why most TDR members do their own service!!! Needing dealer service to maintain your warranty is a rumor started by dealers.

The only way that could possibly add up is if they charged you $500 to install the DRC race setup. Otherwise I agree, where is all that extra money going?? Macdaddy, I'm pretty sure he meant trans flush, not engine.

100,000 mile valve adjustments started in 98. 5 when they went to the 24v engine. I have a 12v and I have it done every 40k or so. Usually it runs about $70 at the local 4x4 shop. Not the dealer. Min shop rate for an hour.

You need to have/see the bill itemized before knowing what was done and how much. Your also paying retail at a service dept that 99% of the independents only wish for. Valve adjust on the 03 up is light duty 150k and severe duty 135k I believe. Its not the same as the 98. 5 through 2002. Its a longer interval.

I had paid $105 for a fuel filter change in Chico Calif, but that was only once. I found out that no matter how long it took, the 5 star dealer there charged 1 hour shop rate plus the price of the part. That is also the same dealer that wanted to void my warranty for using WIX oil filters. :-{}

I would go back and have a few words with the service manager! :( :--)

On Friday, 5-13-05 I had 30,000 mile service under Sch. B on my 03 3500 HO 48RE SRW 2X4, at Karmart Dodge, Burlington, WA. I'm on an island where there isn't a lot of vehicle service available, am not in a position to due my own maint at the moment, and was in Burlington on business, so made an appt and had truck serviced.

Sch. B calls for:

Change engine oil and engine oil filter.

Change rear axle fluid.

Change front axle fluid (4X4).

Drain and refill automatic transmission fluid. Replace filter and adjust bands.

Lubricate outer tie rod ends 2500/3500 (4X4) models only.

Replace fuel filter element. Clean the water in fuel sensor.

Rotate tires.

Inspect fan hub.

Inspect damper.

Inspect water pump weep hole for blockage.

Check coolant level, hoses, and clamps.

Inspect exhaust system.

Inspect brake hoses.

Inspect suspension components.

In addition, I asked them to:

Look at my "lazy seat belt retractor;"

Listen for a whine in the rear end;"

Check for unexpected idle under TSB 18-027-02.

Here's what I paid:

4 (qts/pts?) Lubricant 1081033 $20. 45/unit = $81. 80

1 filter EN 9057006 = 10. 70

2 fluid TRA 1091019 $17. 67/unit = 35. 34

1 filter VA 21170001 18. 50

1 gasket OI 21004003 20. 29

1 cleaner B 1081025 7. 15

1 filter pkg 14029004 37. 35

Parts Total = 211. 33

Labor Total = 178. 20

Tax (7. 9% on everything, INCL labor) = 30. 77

Total = 420. 30

In addition, there were these warranty items:

Flash ECM, TSB 18-027-02

1 label gen 14086100

1 label aut 14806100

There was supposed to be a $25. 00 discount, which I have to call and remind them about for my next visit.

All in all, I thought what I paid was MORE than it ought to have been.

PS: IF you paid by credit card, you might want to WRITE to your credit card company and dispute the bill. The directions for doing so are on the reverse side of your credit card statement. That will give you 60 to 90 days to gather further info on whether the charges for your 30,000 mile service were legitimate. Also, it will force -- at no expense or effort to you -- the Dodge dealer to explain to your credit card company WHY you were charged so much. You won't necessarily get a reduction in the charges, but you MIGHT, and it is certainly worth a try. If you did not pay via credit card, but rather wrote a check or paid cash, paying by credit card in the future might be worth considering, just to be able to take advantage of this feature if necessary.

Great idea. However, did you authorize the work done at that price. Was he given an estimate that stated that price, if not, then you will be a reduction. If he did know the price then he is SOL...

I work at a toyota dealership, and to do a 30K service on a tundra which it basically the same things as your dodge, fluid changes, rotate + balance tires, etc. , and that service runs $517. 68.

Granted there are a few things different, spark plugs, fuel filters, but where the extra $500 came from???????????
