6 Spd towing - 3.73 or 4.10?

headroom in a 5th vs. standard TT

Looking for a little insight as I'm considering a 30' Jayco T/T. I'm not concerned about weight, as the GVW is 7500# (dry weight is 5600#). What sort of a ride can I expect pulling something this long with a swb qc? Is this gonna want to push me around? I realize I don't have the ideal tow set up (2wd, 3. 54 & auto), but hind sight is 20/20  Should have known about TDR prior to buying...

Anyway, am curious to hear from others in this situation. I have guages, will probably add transmission temp before long, probably upgrade in shocks, etc. Otherwise, this is my only nagging issue. Jayco seems to be a decent trailer based on what I've seen & found via the search.

Finally... . if you're ever having trouble spending your money... Gorilla can help you out, like he's helping me :D Thanks in advance.

My brother in law has a 29 foot tt and pulls it with his quad cab SB with no problems at all. You should be fine.

My toybox is 30' nose-to-tail and on an average day 3-4k more heavy than what you've said you expect on that Jayco. I have no problems and I tow it year round at least 1 weekend a month from 250-700+ miles per round trip.

transmission upgrades are a "quality of life" must if you plan on towing it a lot (IMHO).

Sound like a good match up. From someone that has been there and has made a few boo-boos: Get a good brake controller. I am using a prodigy and really like it: You need a good weight distributing hitch SET UP RIGHT!! Some type of over load spring helpers. I am using Tembrem on my 04 but lots of folks like the air bags. Anyway have many happy and safe miles RVings! JIM

Hey dzldpatriot,

I'm sure your rig can handle the trailer without a problem. However, if it were me, I'd try to butter the wife up a little bit and get the Ok to upgrade to a dually crew cab... . or just show up with one, they love that!

.

I have a 30ft Jayco and a 03 SWB HO with 4. 10's 4x4. Tows great even w/o the stabil. setup. In fact I'm towing it from Dinwiddie, home, to Natural Bridge for the weekend! When I get back you can come up here to Dinwiddie and hook it up to your truck if you wish!

I only tow a 26' er but am considering going to a 29' Jayco. A couple of thoughts,

1) I have no worries about the small increase in length and weight but I found it was very important to have the hitch and WD bars etc. set up properly. The RV dealer did not have it right. They had it close enough to send me out of the lot but I found a significant improvement by going through the process of setting it up correctly.

2) I think that Jayco makes a good unit. It's hard to find owners with serious issues, plus the trim matches my Atlantic Blue.

3) There are a lot of people out on the roads pulling bigger, heavier, longer loads with lesser equipment.

The RV dealer uses the Prodigy break control... . "the best on the market", according to him. Is it a decent control? Also, checking the set up to ensure its right... . how would I do that, or will it be obvious. I'm familiar with setting up a boat/trailer combo, but nothing with the Wd set ups. Biggest issue I have with the T/T is finding a place to store it, can't keep it at the house. A few places I've talked to want big $$ for storage. I've got a spot for a large pop-up after I put the boat back in the garage  Stay tuned... Manganos, thanks for the offer... I'll PM you regarding some questions.

The Prodigy is a good controller, it uses inertia to sense how much braking to add to the trailer.

The best spot I have seen for information on set up is here: rvtowingtips.com

Go into hitch setup for some good info.
