With the bad mileage reports of the 325/600; I'm looking used 305/555. Problem: how to identify these. I think late 03 and early 04. Also want the 48re auto. Changes came so frequently it's hard to keep up.

Look at engine ID tag, I thought it was on the driver side? I'll have to look, my 03 dosen't have the rear head rest.

325/600

True the 600's mileage isnt that of my 02, but I am still bone stock w/ 3000 miles, I am getting a full tank average of 17 mpg hand calculated, and I do drive fast on the highway too. These trucks react a lot different in the mileage dept than the VP-44's do. I am straight piped, and have the new EZ to install along w/ AFE intake/torque tube combo, will see what that does for the mileage.

For anyone contemplating a new truck, I would wait for the '05s to start rolling in and see what the reports are. I'm sure hoping mine has decent MPG. My '99 had a max of 24mpg but that was drafting a big truck for 700 miles. Average was more like 17-18 on the highway, so if I see that in the '05 I'll be please. Anything better will be icing on the cake! Plus, no more lift pump, 100% electronic transmission (no kickdown cable), and if the rumors are true, better throttle response than the 04. 5 600. I'll let you know my experience when the truck gets here.

Finding a 305/555

Checking engine data plate is the way to go as stated above. My truck 03 SO/47RE was built in Nov/02 according to engine data plate, I purchased the truck new on 1/11/03 new off the lot (had 14 miles on it when I test drove). My neighbor bought his 03 in Oct/02 his a HO/6-speed the 48RE was not available at the time. Two or three weeks after I purchased my truck Jan/03 the HO/48RE became available. So late Jan/03 to early Feb/03 you should be able to find the 305/555 with the 48RE trans.
