Tell me what I'm missing? My Cooper 305/70/16 spare fit in betwen the rails. Oo. It was snug, but had about a 1/4 inch on each side. It rests on the inside tailpipe hanger a tad and is about 1/2 inch from the pipe:D

I checked with a mirror and 1m candle power spot light - high, low and all around the tire frame etc. nothing touches anywhere. Only thing that might come close is the rear end cover, but if the suspension ever allowed the body to drop that low there would still be about 1 inch gap and the shock is about 1 inch from touching the top edge of the tire. No wire looms are crushed and any that are near move freely.

To test the spare hoist I hung my 195# butt from the tire and bounced up and down - definitly a Kodak moment. THIS NEXT PART IS GREAT! Of course the wife happened to call for dinner at just the right time :-laf. She's a hoot - hollered at me "it took you a whole year but it looks as if you've finally found the right spot to make it with your truck". Of course after that I fell off the tire and busted up laffing. What a gal;) that gal of mine :D.

Anyway, if I'm missing something please let me have it.

Joe, my 285 spare that is 90% worn out just barely fits between the rails, I had to kick and jam it up in there. It will be fun getting it down if I need it  . Mine aslo hits on the exhuast hanger, but when I went to a straight pipe I turned the tip up to the fender and that made the pipe hit the tire too. 40K miles and the tire does not get burned or too hot, the pressure does not vary by more than a few PSI from the heat. If it fit good for you, I would not worry about anything else.

Yes the tires are on the stock chrome wheels (for now) apparently the stock off-set worked out for me. No mods to the suspension and they don't rub anywhere:D Keep in mind they are "70" high not "75", the actual diameter works out to be 32. 75". The first thing I checked was the fronts to make sure they didn't hit the suspension when the wheel was turned to the locks.

I did a bit of question asking here prior to purchase to check what worked for others. Got to love the TDR a wealth of knowledge indeed:)

I'm real happy to get the spare out of the bed. Now I have to get the www.sparetirelock.com to make sure it stays where it is just in case I need it down the road.

So far looks as if I'm not missing anything - we'll see what happens as time passes.

Which Cooper tires are you running? I started a thread in this section as I have the 305/70/16 Durango At's and they are wearing funny on all 4 shoulders of the fronts. Also mine rub? What year is your truck? Any info would help.

Thanks in advance

cold Diesel - my Coopers are Discovery A/T's on the stock chrome wheels (some folks call them potato chip wheels after watching them on a balance machine? Mine were fine) As far as what year etc. check my signature in the first part of this thread gives all you should need if not you can "PM" me.
