Howdy, I have 2 5 speed NV4500 equipted trucks with worn out trannys looking at $2800 rebuilds each!!!. Thats way too high for me right now. What is needed to install the Spicer 3053a 5 speeds out of the M-35 Duce Army trucks into my 1 ton duallys with the nv4500??? Anybody ever done this conversion or have some links to some?? I bought 3 of the rebuilt 3053a 5 speed spicers ($500 each) but they came without the bell housing. Will the 2001 and 1999 24 valve bellhousings accept a spicer 3053a spicer 5 speed, what size clutch and flywheel do I need to use and what about the throwout bearing as well??? Thanks in advance for any help or ideas???
 
If you are thinking of doing the replacement yourself why not just rebuild the NV4500's yourself? You can rebuild them for $600-800 each completely. I bought a cast iron housing, bigger input shaft (I got a deal), syncros, bearing, seals, a new counter shaft and upgraded mainshaft and was only at $1150.
 
Do you have a Factory Service Manual? My 93 FSM has a rebuild section for the NV4500 in it. You could save a ton of money doing it yourself.
