30ft gooseneck on 92 w250

I have seen posts where a lot of you guys are pulling big fivers with 3/4tons. I would like to get into a 30 ft gooseneck. Probably a 12,000 gvwr trailer. Would three axles be better on the trailer to reduce pin weight. As for mods I was thinking of a DTT transmission, air bags, E rated tires ... What do you all suggest?

I like tandem duals better vs. triple singles myself. The only way to me to keep your pin weight down is to load the trailer properly and not be heavy on the front.



A transmission, air bags, and E rated tires are a good start. An exhaust brake and a brake upgrade would be a good things to add also.

I agree with fred and nathan,have seen tires on the third axle chewed bad. Good tires,proper inflation,and common sense loading make a big difference. My goose weighs 4400# and I had a JD 4020 on it ,about 15000# total. Slow and easy does it. P. S. Truck was stock then.

I have had a triple single and traded promptly for a tandem dually cause tires were scuffed bad after only 5000 miles. As for pulling a 30' with a 3/4 ton that is fine. I pull a 44' 30k trailer and a 32' 20k trailer on a daily basis with my 3/4 ton loaded up with all sorts of farm equipment. I would definately upgrade tires and transmission before doing so though.

Hey CSnyder, how's the VP-44 holding up for you? Just a heads up for you when coming into WI. The State is starting to crack down on pickups that are being used in hauling. A friend of mine told me that they're handing out tickets to farmers because they don't have any DOT#'s.
