After installing the rpm gauge I noticed that the motor will rev to 3100 rpm in 2nd and 3rd gear with ease. Is this possible with a stock guv spring? I'm pretty sure that the pump was never messed with. If this is the case I won't try to put a 366 spring in. This motor makes more than enough power at 3000 rpm to do what I need to do. What were your rpm's before you installed your springs? Thanks...

I can't recall... ..... Pretty high. That is to say, after I performed a number of throttle linkage/cable/ shaft/arm/pedal modifications. Now, w/said spring, it goes to 4k with trans in Neutral.

My truck won't free rev over 2800, no way it would go to 3000 in any gear. I don't expect to see over 2200 rpm under load with my stock spring. My truck has always been on the low end of power/rpm though, even when it was new (my dad bought it) it wasn't as fast as others I had been in.

I have had a 3000 rpm spring for a year and it hasn't seemed to help one bit..... Of course it is sitting right next to the 190 injectors on my work bench :)

Dumb question time: Your tach is reading right isn't it?

Yea I think I was able to get about 2900 no load and maybe 2600/2700 under load in the low gears after I tweaked the stock gov stop. But no more than that... . however I did not max out the adjustment. I only adjusted enough to let the truck hit 100 mph and stopped there.

You can get the VE to hit 3100 rpms by backing the high rpm stop set screw off with the stock gov spring. However with that being said the gov. spring will still start to defuel at between 2400 and 2500 rpms so you only gain rpms not fuel.

With WA States smoke test this is a a little trick I've used on 2 1st gens to pass that test. They require that you floor the go pedal three times then hold it to the floor at which time they check the smoke level. By doing this the VE has started to defuel hence less smoke. One guy went from a reading of 40 to a reading of 4.

If you adjust and tweak everthing just right you can get 3600 out of it.

After install of the 366 spring mine will do 4200+.

Added timing will also help the higher rpms at the exspense of low speed spool up.
