Competition So, Who has won this year??????

Competition 507 HP/1045 lbft FOR THE DAY

Curious what others are running for tires. I currently run a set of 305-70-16 pro-comp mud terrains on 16x8 eagle's. I am looking for a slightly more aggressive tread in a 35" tire. TRX or SSR swampers seem to be the only choices. I know that 315-75-16 tires will fit with my 2" spacers on the front. A 35" super swamper is quite a bit taller than a 315 in other brands.

Will 35" swampers fit with 2" front spacers only?

Anybody have another option that I am unaware of?

Looking for near maximum mud ability while still keeping street manners at least decent. I know both are not possible.

The procomps just don't seem to clean very good in the goo and at 30,000 miles they are shot.

I just put Goodyear 315's MT/R on two weeks ago. I put them on Weld Stone Crushers 16x10's but my lift is over 5". The look is KILLER! The noise on the hiway is more than the factory Mich's but they are smooth all the way to 120 mph. These are expensive tires but I belive if you look them over you'll find it fits both of your requests. I'm very pleased

I put the 315 MT/Rs on a couple of months ago. I was so disappointed with the stock Michelins on the ride home from the dealelrship that I immediately started researching tires. I have Super Swampers on my Sami and had 265 MT/Rs on my last truck so I had those experiences to help.

My goal was to get the biggest tire that wouldn't require a lift or new wheels. From the posts here it was clear that 315s fit well, but had a slight rub at full lock. May claim to have solved that with a 2" lift up front. After looking at my trucks front end, it was obvious that the lift is not what fixed the rub. I would suspect that the lift also moved the axle laterally.

Super Swampers don't have very good road manners, but are killer off-road. Since my Ram will see much time on pavement, I decided to not go with the Super Swampers. While BFG, Procomp, and other have Mud tires with good reputations, I knew how the Goodyears are. I really didn't want to spend this much money on an experiment, so I went with the Goodyear MT/Rs.

My experience with the MT/Rs is that they clear mud very well. I don't do a lot of mudding, and what mudding I have done has not been in the gooey stuff. The MT/Rs work well in the snow. But, I don't do much driving in the snow, so maybe they just work well in the kind I have driven in.

The MT/Rs work very well off-road. Almost as good as the Super Swampers. They have very good road manners. I can hardly hear the difference in road noise over the stock. But they are much quieter than the Super Swampers.

As far as fitting, the height of the tires isn't the real problem. The control arm rub can be solved by moving the tires out. They do rub the back of the wheel wheel at full stuff, but a lift alone won't solve that, the bump stop will need to be moved.

Since I am not doing any hardcore wheeling with my Ram (that's what the Sami is for), I am not very concerned about any of the rubbing.

My opinion is that the MT/Rs are the best compromise tires there are. Most of the tire reviews and comparisons I've read in the wheeling mags say the same thing. The BFG mud tires seem to be catching up though.

The Yokohamas clean out good...

and don't look too bad either. Not too noisy, at least not over the roar. :D

I am leaning toward the 35-12. 50-16 TrXus Interco's. 10ply rating, 3640 lbs. Also make a 34-12. 50-16 if the 35's won't clear.

Anybody running these tires that can answer about clearance on the fenderwell?

I sure would like to see a truck with these on it before purchasing but haven't seen anybody running these in my area.

Thanks

I am looking at the TrXus Intercos as they are E rated. When I bought My 305-70-16 procomps (4wheelparts) I asked what the load rating on the tire was "3400 lbs @ 65psi" I said cool- send them on. When the tires arrived sidewall says -- 2910 @ 50 psi

Needless to say I was a little PO'd. But kept the tires anyway. I do not want D rated tires again. I know alot of you run them as I did and tow heavy too. I don't want to anymore. But I don't want to have to run a small street tread tire either.

Several people posted about MT/R and P/J tires and I appreciate it but I think those are D rated if I remember correctly.

By far the Dunlop Mud rover has been the best all around tires I have ever run (on my old 1/2 ton) but they only come D rated and I just want to step up a little on weight rating.

Thanks for the input guys.

BigBadDodge, Didn't realize they were E rated thanks. Maybe I will look at them again. The Goodyear MT/R are D rated though.

Thanks for the info.

SO I guess nobody is running TrXus tires in 35"?

If you think 30 k is bad get the swampers and watch them wear out at 15-20k. Swampers rule in mud but they are horrible on pavement. they are not round, ride rough, and don't last long.

IF YOU WANT TRACTION STAY WITH THE SWAMPERS THEY MAKE A RADIAL IN 36-12. 5-16 CLEAN BETTER THEN ANY OTHER RADIAL IVE RUN. NOT SURE IF YOU GET CRAZY MAY BE SOME RUB BUT IM SURE ON A 8'' RIM IT SUCKS THE TIRE IN QUITE A BIT. THERE RATED OVER 3000LBS I THINK AROUND 3600LBS PER TIRE BUT CHECK THERE WEBSITE

I FORGOT DONT GET CAUGHT UP ON THE LOAD "D" "E" CR*P JUST LOOK AT THE LBS. ALSO YOU MAY FIND THAT THOSE EAGLES ARE YOUR WEAK LINK IN TERMS OF LOAD CAP. I WENT WITH WELDS ON MY 92 BECAUSE THE EAGLES I WANTED WERE RATED AT 2550 BUT I DONT KNOW WHICH ONES YOU HAVE

I'm running Super Swamper SSRs, 33x12. 5x16. 5, I've not been too happy with them. My BFGs didn't cause this much vibration, the stick shift looks like it's gonna snap right off. I'm going to run Bridgestone Dueler A/Ts til I decide on what to try next.

Thanks everyone for the input. My Eagle 589's are rated 3400lbs ea. I got no business putting more than 6800#s total on the rear of the truck. Finally bought 315/75/16 Dunlop Mud Rovers yesterday and as I have run them on two other trucks I knew I would not be dissapointed. Coming home last night they rode smooth as glass.

I wanted to try the TrXus because of the "E" rating but too many people said they were not any more round than the TSL's and scaired me off of them.
