35 mpg ?

There is legistration afoot requiring all vehicles to get at least 35 gpm, including pickups, vans, suvs and cars.

Better tell you legislators to vote no!

My truck gets 17. 5 MPG on the way there and 17. 5 MPG on the way back. That's 35 MPG average. It's even higher if I have another stop along the way.

Kewl - Mines a keeper using an average of 45 GPM (gallons per month) . I would love to get 35 mpg.

This mornings Portland Oregon "Oregonian" had an article that stated that this bill is in trouble. It looks as if it probably will not pass. Can you see politicians giving up those 10mpg limo's for a 35mpg Honda? Kerry and Kennedy may control Mass. with an Liberal iron fist but there are still some people out there that don't agree with them.

Like Bob, I heard on the radio this morning that the bill will die a quick death. Hard to envision a congressman riding around in a Prius by 2015.

I may be wrong, but i think what they are looking for is a CAFE (corporate averave fuel economy) of 35 MPG. That means all of the cars sold combined will average 35.



Personally I'm not real concerned about it, as there will always be a market for heavy duty vehicles, and the laws of physics are not going to allow them to get much above what they are now... . They will just have to make their smaller cars and light trucks a little more fuel efficient. The technology exists, they just have to make it happen...

I heard Rush today blowin' his horn while bathing in his admiration for himself. They always shoot high so they can accomplish alittle. He just likes to use fear tactics to play on our emotions.

On a more down to reality note, I wonder what the Superduties in South America with their Cummins B four bangers get for mileage. I rode in a Isuzu box truck awhile back with a turbocharged four and was surprised at how much power it had. Not that I'd want a four cylinder diesel in my Ram. I'm just curious about the mileage.

feight trains 35 mpg..I don't think so...

I can't vouch for what freight trains get per mpg, but I am in charge of fueling passenger trains for a large passenger train company. I see the fuel reports and if anyone is interested, i'll look up the mpg. I thinks it's about 4-6 GALLONS PER MILE. However, if you want to talk about ton miles per gallon... . I'll guess off hand we get about 150-200 ton miles per gallon That would be equivilent to our roughly 3 ton trucks getting 50-70? mpg. (Remember though, almost no rolling resistence, relatively shallow slopes. ) If anyone wants to know ask and I'll get my reports out when I get to work and due the math.
