1998 3500 4x4, I am replacing the brakes with new parts. Once the 8 nuts are off and the 1 11/16 nut is off, does it take a slid-hammer to get the rotors off? I tried hitting it with a dead blow hammer and it did not even give an inch.

Thanks

I have a 2500, but...

On my drum there were some metal clip fasteners holding the drums on. You have to chisel these off. Another hint is to, with wheels off and rear end jacked up, apply and release brakes. This should break drums loose.

Take care

oops

I forgot to add that the brakes I am doing is on the front. The 3500 has a "spacer" that needs to come off to get the rotors off. This is what will not come off.

Mine is a 96 2500. If it's like mine, it has unit bearings. There should be 4 bolts on the back of the rotor. Take out these bolts and the assembly should come off. If I remember correctly, I had to take care with the front axle, though.
