Before you air baggers and timbren owners get all air bagged up hear me out. In 2004 I purchased a QCSRW 2500. I had my spring shop in Charlotte to add 2 extra full length rear springs. The empty ride was just a bit stiffer but the handling of my 36' Cedar Creek was fabulous. I still had a short coming in the tires and my wife and I concluded we needed a dually and we have owned 2 since then. I visited my spring man in Charlotte yesterday to see about adding 1 full length spring to my 3500XD. Well to my surprise he already had single springs with the 2 holes already punched in them that will fit perfectly. They are already cut to length and he set 2 springs to the side for me to schedule my truck in there.
The below photo is my 04 with 2 leafs already added. I will do the same with 1 spring to my 07. 5...
Also I will show a photo of a 3500 chassis cab spring that I saw at my local DC dealer and circled the small short coming of the rear springs of all 3500/5500 springs when they are loaded to full capacity. The short leafs are stacked in just fine and carry load well but the very top spring has about 3-5"s of no support and will bend down slightly when loaded. I have seen 5500s traveling down the highway with great loads and you can see the top spring on the end has a negative camber or arch. This could be well fixed by simply adding just one spring next to the top spring.
