Hey GF got a 00 3500, 4x4, 6 spd, 4:10's, had to go out of town to get it... so running 70 at around 2200 rpm. . it got about 13. 3. . this is not off the console,,,filled it up before we left and right when we got back... is this what can be expected from this thing... its all stock... so will exhaust, air, edge EZ, help in this area,,,i have a 99 5 speed with 3. 54's, and i seem to have alot more seat of the pants power. . (i do have an edge on it and straight stock exhaust) seems with her gears we're shifting alot... hooked up the 36' horse trailer and 4 horses (weighed the whole works... truck, trailer, horses=20000 lbs!!!) went and hit a pretty good hill on the interstate and was in 5th floored and only maintained around 65. . didnt drop but didnt gain either... . this one has 106k on it. . with a new ex. man. and turbo at 95k... . thanks for any info... . Russ

That doesn't really sound all that bad. the mileage could stand to be a little better, but I don't think you're going to see much more than 15 or 16. 20,000 lbs, 65 mph up a hill doesn't exactly sound weak for a stock truck. What kind of rpm was that at? Remember that power drops off at 2700 rpm, so pushing past that won't pull that load any harder.

Have you checked fuel pressure under full load? Checked for codes?

Matt

Hey Got the same thing I have a 2002 3500 6spd 4:10s and I use about 21l/100km. I don't know what that would be in your language and that is running at 120km/h @2600rpm. I think it is a lot of fuel but how knows.

Keith

The best mileage I have seen is 15mpg, but is usually 12-14 either empty or moderately loaded with camper, firewood, or towing a boat. Truck is a stock 6spd with 3. 54 gears.

FWIW, my mileage drops off quite a bit over 2000 RPM - that is definately the sweet spot for mine. All day at 2200-2300 would cost me 1- 1. 5 MPG.

I've got the same truck except for being an '01, it gets 17. 5 like clockwork. I suspect there's something amiss with your GF's truck.

If the 03 has low miles, you have to wait and get more tow miles on it to break it in and then you will get better mileage...

My 01 was low for a long time, after broken in, I used synthetic oils and also a multiweight oil in the Diff (75W-90 synthetic) seems to get better mileage when solo now. . If I do 65-70 I can do close to 20 MPG... . Gonna get 19. 5" tires and wheels... "F" rating... about 9" wide so it should help the rollong resistance. .

I recently took a round trip from FL to NC and got 24. 5 mpg. That's with 6spd and 3. 55. I was cruising empty at 75mph at about 2050 rpm. Also, that was 75% hwy and the rest were city miles. I've never seen that high mpg on this site. Is my truck gifted?

Well, I get 12-13 around town, stop and go.

The best I've got is 17 on the interstate unloaded.
Towing 12,000 I get 10-12, which I consider quite good.

Don't let any of the talk from 2500's fool you, those training wheels consume fuel!

But I wouldn't give it up! #ad
