Been a member awhile. Have '98. 5 3500 auto. Want to add exhaust brake and make transmission last. No bomber (Maybe EZ at max) will baby my rig. Want it to last . Haul 3000 lb camper and 4000lb boat. Not very mechanically inclined. Totally confused about Torque converters, Valve bodies, lock-up mechanisms gizzmos. gizmos.

Need help in selecting a no-nonsence, dependable, driveable, TC,VB, EB.

Have an appointment with DTT next month to do the whole enchelada. Pros? Cons?

I am all ears and would welcome any constructive comments.

Any of you members had positive or negative ressulte with DTT or other vendors?

I just want to be safe and have my rig last.

Thanks for any and all input.

Craig Wood (Wildwood)... at least I used to be.

If you have an appointment with DTT, your in good hands. Your in the same neck of the woods as HVAC, he can give you some pointers, (maybe you should stay away, he and the red rocket could be a bad influence :D ). Anyway, there has been a tremendous amount published on the site concerning Bill and DTT. Try doing some searches. Also, DTT has a website. You might peruse the "Trans Talk. " http://www.dieseltrans.com/DTTech/Transtalk/cgi-bin/transtalk.cgi

I had DTT upgrade my transmission. It was a great experience both having the work done by a great bunch of guys (and gals!) and the pleasure of the machine lasts a long time. Do it.

p. s. The exhaust brake (PacBrake) with the SmartController is wonderful. I wouldn't be without it. Period.

I'm a little further afield than most TDR members, but I got the DTT mods done last Easter and have not looked back since. Reliability and longevity are also important to me given my home location in Europe. having covered 20k miles since leaving the USA, I have no regrets. If you get the opportunity to have a ride in a truck which has improved engine performance, you might reconsider... ... so start saving NOW just in case... . :D:D

Better still, whilst you're waiting for the DTT upgrades, get some gauges installed and establish some benchmarks to set and manage your expectations with empirical data not just seat of the pants stuff. HVAC won't steer you wrong...

Having DTT upgrade your TC & VB is almost like a power enhancement itself. You will notice a huge difference.

Craig, as stated above, your going to the right place. Out here in New England I had Massdiesel do the installs of my DTT products, 91%TC, VB, Pacbrake, nad Smartcontroller. I tow up to 10k lbs.

YOU WILL BE SATISFIED:cool:

Who ever you have do the upgrades, your headed in the right direction by doing the transmission first. The recomdations of installing gauges for base lines is a must or you will be second guessing yourself afterwards and wishing you would have done it.

Craig,if you dont want many bombs, you better stay away from HVAC!The DTT upgrade will help your trans,IMO,you really should have an EZ after the trans upgrade,to help get out of the hole as quick as a stocker, the tight TC will work the engine a little harder off the line, the EZ will get you spooled up quicker.

Thanks for all the input. Your comments make me feel better about parting with the bucks and knowing the job will be done right. Not to mention the 2000 mile round trip. I am going to have a lot invested in this little venture.

I appreciate the comments about installing gauges before the upgrade. Makes total sense.

I made a 3200 mile trip to DTT. Told the wife we're going out west to visit her relatives so I was able to combine family with bombing!! :D :D :D

Bill and his crew are some of the nicest folk you could ever wish to meet. His warranty is second to none, trust me, Bill will do whatever he has to to make sure you're satisfied - voice of experience here!!

If you have the SB with the aluminum drive shaft and are real nice to Vinny he might polish it for you:D :D

Good luck, oh, and one final thing get the EZ as well. Really brings the ol' Cummins to life!
