I would like to run a larger size tire than the 235/80-17 tires. How large can I go with the stock rims before the dual tires touch? I'm thinking of going with 265/70-17 michelin LTX MS 2.
Go to the tire manufactures web sight and the specification on the tires are published... as I remember you need a 8" wheel for the 265's to get proper wear... I'm guessing the 7" dually wheel will give you uneven wear and the tire bulge will give you grief...
Understand that the spacing is for a couple of things... proper cooling at speed and temperature and their also far enough apart to not pickup a rock and hold it. . thus wearing through the side wall. .
I'm going with a 255/80-17E BFG mud terrain. Supposed to be about a 33x9. 75. It was posted recently by another that this tire will work with stock wheels no spacers. Mine will be here Tuesday, so I won't know for sure till I get them on.
My 98 came with a set of 255/85 16s and there is a spacer. I don't care for how close the duallies are even with the spacer. So when these wear out I will be putting 235/85 16s on.
I think mine are 245's. I went with the 17's due to availability and the fact that I got rid of my 16's a few years ago. I also plan on going with the '03 and on front brakes that will not be cleared by 16's.
