Still looking for 4.10 gears

I live in south Florida and 3 weeks ago when we started looking there were only 3 Ram 3500 dually LWB quad Cab 4x2 autos to be found in the state.

The reason offered up by two of the dealers was that the factory engineers are specking the trucks, not the dealers, and they are more concerned with sales and fleet mileage than they are with towing capacity. Just another opinion.

Do we have any authoritative knowledge that the early 2007 models will still have the ISB 5. 9 HO motor? I asked my local dealers and they don't know what I am even talking about.

Yep, if you want the Jacobs brake, that's a dealer-installed option. They don't come from the factory with an e-brake. Ours was installed before we took delivery and, therefore, covered by the 3/36 Dodge bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Don't discount your local Cummins dealer when looking for an E brake. That's who installed mine. They were over $500 less expensive than the two Dodge dealers I spoke with.

Klinger & TowPro, thanks for the spreadsheet; that will really help me make an informed decision. The spreadsheet points out my only issue w/ the auto-that being you can’t really settle on a moderate highway speed when towing a 14k fiver. With OD locked out, mid-50’s seems the best for the RPM’s (I know the sweet spot for RPMs is open for debate but somewhere between 2000 and 2200 seems right for the load) but in OD, you need to be 70 mph or more to keep the RPMs up. It appears the manual give me that mid-gear for comfortable highway speeds.

I found a couple of manual transmissions and both my wife and I will test drive one this weekend. I have driven manuals most of my life so I will report back on what my reaction is and how it compares to a manual on a gasser.

CaptainEric, you are probably right about why RVers have such a hard time finding rigs to suit them. With the Cummins, Dodge could have had a nice niche market if it built one specifically for RVers, like the RV Special or something like that.

I have a 2006 Dully, 6 speed, with 3. 73 gears, and gross just under 26K lbs. I have almost 18K miles on the truck and I would say 17K miles are with the trailer hooked up... . in no way shape or fourm would I want or need the 4. 10 rear ends, Also don't forget what the specs are for HP and tourq, Not sure how it would relate to the auto, but I think the 4. 10 is a dieing bread, unless you want to put big "taller"

tires on the truck,
