I plan to put 35" tires (probably Super Swamper SSRs) on a 2001. 5. I'm curious as to whether there will be any ABS problems, and would appreciate input from anyone with experience. I'm puttin in a lift, so clearance isn't an issue. Thanks in advance for your replies.

I have a 5" suspension lift, 3" body lift, and 37" Good Years. My suspension kit came with a bracket to raise the little bar by the left rear shock, I think it's a ride height sensor or something for the rear abs. My brakes work perfectly, but if you have 4 wheel abs, I'm not sure what if anything will happen! Good luck.

I had to get rid of the Ground Hawgs cause they were coming apart while towing. I switched to 37" Good Year Wrangler M/T's. They are D rated and handle towing much better. I think they look a little small, but the improved ride makes it worth it.

Expat,

I'm running 35" BFG's on my 2001. 5 with 4-wheel ABS and have had no problems at all. As long as the front and rear tires are the same size, there should be no problems.

Just a word of caution-I had a set of 35" SSR's on my ram last year. They were destroyed after 15,000 miles, even with numerous rotations. They also started to hop badly around 10,000 miles. They just don't seem to hold up to the weight of the front end-these tires are soft!

Expat, very good question!
When I changed tire sizes on a GM product with 4 wheel ABS, my truck would barely stop on gravel because the system activated too early. I hope the Dodge system is better, but from past threads I don't think it is "perfect" so I suggest you watch for a few more answers before concluding to go ahead with this mod. I have only the rear wheel ABS, so I can't really help with an "apples and apples" answer. Also I think there is a lot of truck-to-truck variation - some folks get good ABS systems, others get unlucky.

Snyder,
How did you get a body lift to work with the diesel, and the intercooler hoses, ect. also how bout some pictures of that rude truck. I have always had big trucks, but have not lifted this one yet because I think I'll be selling it for the 4 door, if it looks good enough. The 9 year old is already whining about legroom in the back. Also what lift did you use on the suspension...

Mick2500, What did you use for a lift to get the 35"s on, and what gears do you run, did the tires hurt the performance and milage much? (pictures)

Lawdog, all they do with the intercooler lines is rotate one of the elbows up, and they have to cut and turn the other. It was no big deal. I haven't had any trouble with it, though some bash body lifts. I beat the hell out of this truck every hunting season and it holds up great. I use Tuff Countrys 5 1/2" suspension and aside from snapping the track bar drop bracket the kit is great. I have a D. T. products track bar, but haven't installed it yet. I am basically illiterate with this computer, so I don't know how to put pictures on here, though I just took some in the snow and mud in Arizona last weekend. I know what you mean about a 4 door, my two boys will outgrow the quad cab soon also, but all the rumors of no Cummins, no Dana axles, will keep me holding on to this one. If ever Ford were to put a Cummins in a F-350, I'd be trade in tomorrow. (no flames please!!) Whiplash is coming out with a 10" suspension for our Rams, so I might go with that and some 39. 5", 10 ply Swampers in the near future. Good luck and sorry for rambling!

Lawdog,

No lift, 4X4, Camper Special seemed to do the trick. I can 'make' 'em rub just a little at full lock left or right. They touch the locator bars, not the fenders.
3. 54 rear gear, 6-speed, helped the mileage about 2 MPG (but I didn't have a lot of miles to test, put the 315's on at 1200 miles). I spin 1,900 at 75 MPH, speedo is 10% slow exactly. I don't really tow anything.

Mick

Snyder and Mick2500,
Thanks for the info, sorry it took so long to get back, I went on a snowmobile trip to Thief River Falls, MN, to the Arctic Cat Factory In an underpowered GMC 454 crewcab Yuck... My Info on the new rams is from one of the best sources, and he confirms the common rail, Quiet CUMMINS for 2003 with an ALLISON auto, and SOLID axles for the 3/4 and 1 tons, Hydro-formed frames,305HP and 550ft-lb or tourque
