Well, here goes, I'm out to put the set of 35's I have kicking around on my 92, the front springs are beat to death(V-Plow on top of the Cummins... . ) so I want to lift it some as I need to replace them anyway. But, on the other hand, I don't want to go any higher than I need to, as I am planning on buying a gooseneck and don't want to run into height issues there, and I will be plowing next winter.
So, what is the minimum amount of lift needed to comfortably clear 35's on my truck? Since I still haven't drug my 89 home yet(it has new stock springs) I have no clue what the front is supposed to sit like stock.

A leveling kit may do it if you have new springs in the front. 4in will definatly do good, my bro has 6in with 36s and he looks like he could fit 38s.

It depends on how much wheeling you are planning to do. If the truck is going to be a street truck with just mild off roading a 4" would be pleanty. If you are wanting to do some serius wheeling then even with a 6 " you will still be able to rub a lil bit when the suspention is maxed out.

Pretty much just street/tow rig duty, with mild hunting/fishing related wheeling, the 460 Ford is on 38. 5" Boggers for the fun stuff...
The main reason I want to put 35's on is that I have a set on wheels with less than 500 miles on 'em for summer use... . LOL

35's will clear a stock 1st gen with minor trimming. As long as your not hardcore, they will clear with the 2. 5 inch springs with no trim.

Mine definatley wont' clear 35's as is without major sawz-all action, springs are TOAST... LOL.
2. 5" will probably do the trick then

I used 6" skyjacker lift with 35" tires, 4" dropped drag link plus 4" drop steering arm. Stock 4 inch blocks on 93 6" rear springs and Stock 2 1/2 inch blocks on 91 1/2 with 8" rear springs, no trimming needed. Air bags on the rear with spacers compensate for the lower load capacity of Skyjacker springs, and I extended the truck's capacity to 2500 lb load while maintaining level load. This maintains drive line angles thus preventing virbrations. Superb ride both on and off road.

How wide do you want, true a 4" lift will clear a 35x12. 50 on a 10" wide wheel, but a 14. 50 will tear your fenders up, I had 38. 5x16s on 14 wide wheels with a true 8" lift and ripped my fenders. I'm dropping to a 37x12. 50 on a 10 wide with new fenders, I am not a fan of butchering trucks with a sawzall. ALSO NOT ALL LIFTS ARE CREATED EQUAL, a 4" Skyjacker is 4" whereas a 4" Superlift or Pro Comp are 3-3. 5 and they will settle with a cummins over them, I run re-arched springs for the diesels. As far as snowplowing, in Michigan I've found a low centered truck with skinny tires pushes the best, I've always had nice wheels and tires for the summer and then put LT235/85R16s on the stock wheels for the winter, as far as the gooseneck you're on your own, I use a heavy trailer with a pintle hitch and adjustable tounge to level it out no matter what truck I'm hooking to.

I have the 4" skyjacker in front and the 2-2. 5" in the rear to level it. It is one of the skyjacker kit options. Running 315-75r16 BFG KM2 MS tires I have no problems under all but extreme conditions. With no swaybar, going down a steep hill, hitting the bottom and turning, I have fender issues.

I will probably have to trim a little for the wild trails.

One comment on the 4" skyjacker lift in the front. If you are going to wheel it, you will hit the spring eye on the frame under compression. I was starting to wear a dent in the frame. I just installed . 5" longer front shackles to give the spring room to compress without hitting the frame.

i ran 35s under my truck, stock suspension for about a year or so. my front springs where real negative arched, so i had to do some genorous work with the sawzall to get them to work. even still it would rub pretty bad if i was on anything but level ground in a turn. the rear was totally fine though. i got the skyjacker 2 inch add-a-leaf for the rear, really nice difference. and i bought the 2. 5" leaf packs for up front, but i also bought a second set of rear add-a-leafs and added them into the new front packs. the new packs only have 5 leaves, stock dodge ones had 6. the add-a-leaf up front with the new pack is awesome. i had to replace my shocks, it is way to high for the factory ones, but other than than, i didnt have to fool with the steering at all or anything else. it hasnt rubbed the slightest bit. truck sits level and tall. i love it. if you do the springs, save your self the trouble and go to your local spring shop and get them to make you all new ubolts/nuts, and as for the studs on the passenger side of the front axle, your best bet is just to replace them with the right size bolt.

I ran 33's on my 1990 first gen with a 2. 5 in Skyjacker lift and they JUST BARELY cleared with my plow up. My new truck (a 1992) has 32's with a Skyjacker 4" lift and I have no problems (plow up or down). If you want to go with 35's and you plow, I would definitely recommend going with a 4" lift.

PS: Here are pics of both truck so you can decide if 4" is too much for your gooseneck (The black one is up 4", the blue one is 2. 5"). Keep in mind I'm only running 32's on the black dually, so your 35's would be even higher.

ive talked to you before about that blue truck, i love it.

were on earth did you get the hood for the dually??? also, were did you get the light bar? i really like your set up

Thanks for the compliments...

The hood on the dually came from "US Body Source", it was way too expensive and I would NEVER do it again. It was $700. 00 for the hood, almost $200. 00 for shipping, and another $900. 00 for prep and paint... It needed ALOT of prep, hours and hours at a body shop. I love it, but $1800. 00 is WAY TOO MUCH just for a hood. As for the lightbar, which one? The one on the dually is a "Whelen 9M Eight Strobe", and the one on the blue '90 is a "Federal Signal Streethawk".
