I got around to installing my 370's last weekend. When I fired it up it idled really rough and the idle was 150rpm lower. When driving it has a major engine stumble below 1500rpm, I mean the whole truck shakes and vibrates until you get above 1500rpm or you really stomp on it. Basically any time I am at an idle or below 55mph the truck runs rough. The power is awesome when you stomp on it but other than that I am not pleased! Any ideas?

I did not have the problems you've had but will smoke out a city block when started below 40 degrees and stubles bad about a minute or so and won't rev over 1900. I'm not happy with them and have been told I need to advance the timming but have not been able to make connections with my mechanic with the proper tools yet. I haven't called Pacific transmission yet as I hope the timming change will help hopefully it will get done Saturday.

My engine ran rough until I installed a gov. spring kit and high flow delivery valves. My truck has the 160 hp pump and I expected it to do this. I haven't heard of a 215hp motor not being able to support these injectors.

Wish I could help more. Keep us updated on what happens.

ChiliDog:
Remember the 215 injectors will support more fuel with just a plate and timming adjustments. I put in 300's and with plate work and timming placement I'm close to 400 HP with nothing but GO in the engine. I feel with that large of an injector and nothing else the stumble will always be there. I been told other things about springs, plates and such, so I'll leave mine like it is till more plate work.

I haven't ever had any of these problems with mine. Mine right from the start had better bottom end ever preboost. I even did the 16CM2 housing at the same time and no problems at all. It was stronger than ever all the way through the power band.

Here are some of my thoughts... .

Are you sure you got the right injectors part numbers? there are quite a few 370 injectors. Mine came right from DDD (Joe Donnelly ((DR. Diesel Donnelly)))

Try adjusting the Allen screw on the back of the AFC housing in a turn or two. This screw moves the AFC arm in giving it more fuel at idle.

Check fuel pressure. I have seen gassers that bigger injectors where put in lose power and run crappy just to find out that the fuel pump wasn't up to flowing enough fuel to keep up with the bigger injectors.

The only thing I can remember adjusting when I installed mine was the AFC leaner to cut down on smoke preboost.

ChillyDog:

Welcome to the TDR Website!

I was surprised to hear you are having
trouble with the 370's in your truck.
You have the 5-speed, so I wouldn't
think your pump is the problem.

I have had my 370's in for almost one
year now with NO PROBLEMS at all.
However, like "drawson" said I wonder
if you got the "right" 370's. Like he
said there are several different types
and Piers Harry @ "BD" did alot of
testing on them until he found the
right ones. I bought mine from him at
"BD" so maybe that is the problem. If
you have the part # call Piers @ "BD"
and let him check the numbers for you.

Also, like "Strick-9" said, you may
need the governor spring kit and high
flow delivery valves. When mine were
installed I had "Scheid Diesel" upgrade
my P7100 pump to make sure that every-
thing would work together. My pump did
need to be "calibrated" for them.

I would suggest that you have timing
checked. You need to be at 16-16. 5 AT
LEAST. I think right now I am "set" at
17. Also have your fuel pressure checked
as "drawson" said. If it is low that
would cause some of the "stumble" you
have. The 370's flow alot of fuel so
maybe some of your problem is in the
pressure.

I hope you get it all worked out.
Like "drawson" I REALLY like mine alot.
They smoke under full throttle but I
don't mind.

Good luck "ChillyDog!"

I had mine set at 15. 5 a while ago. Did you see a big improvement with the timing change or did you get all of the work done at once? I was told by the guys at Enterprise Engine that with my current engine set up I should be running 17. 5 degrees of timing to help with power and temperature.

Steve:

I did have all the work done at one time
by "Scheid Diesel. " They installed the
370's, "recalibrated" the pump and while
in there they installed the governor
spring kit and AFC spring kit.

They just recently changed the timing
to 17. 5 according to my notes. It seemed
to help the "low end" power more and
my exhaust temperature seems to be lower.
However, I do have a little more black
smoke under full power. I will be honest
with you, I have thought about bumping
it up to 18 just to see how it feels.

Hope this has helped you some.
