I hate to be the dumb one of the bunch but here goes... .

What exactly does DTT stand for? I'd like the web address as well.

How much savings are we talking about on the "group discount" your talking about re the 370 marine injectors?

Where can I learn more about the group discount?

I have a 95 that I'm ready to start modifying. My first order of business was to be gauges but if this is really a good deal on 370's, I just may have to go ahead and make this purchase now.

Thanks for the info guys,

Don't worry about calling DTT (Diesel Transmission Tech. ) about a set of injectors. I ordered the last set yesterday. If you are looking for DTT's URL go to the links, it's in there.

danandme-

The delivery valves are very simple to install. The hardest part is finding the socket. The smaller pumps need the bigger delivery valves pretty bad. I just put a set of 191's (stock valves are 131's)in my truck and I am very impressed.

Wrong Washers

Todd,

You should have used the thin . 020 washer that your OEM injectors came with. EVERYONE, no matter what year 12 valve truck installing Diamond "B" 370's should use the thin washer.

The nozzle on a 370 is shorter than the OEM injectors. In order for these engines to run their best, the spray position must be optimized in accordance with combustion-chamber & piston bowl design.

With a shorter nozzle on the 370, and . 060 washers, now your injector nozzle is way off from where it's designed to be. See what I'm saying?

Bosch sez:

" Cummins diesel engines generally operate with 4 to 6 spray holes whose injection direction is adapted very percisely to the respective combustion chamber. Devations around 2° from the optimum injection direction lead to a measureable increase in black smoke emmission and fuel consumption"

Whether using a thick washer on a 370 is effectively changing the optimum injection direction, I'm not sure, but I doubt it.

The 370's spray pattern match up well with the Dodge Cummins engine, as long as the thin . 020 are used. (from what I read)

Others marine injectors that don't work well are the 300's and 275's.

I will probably change to the thinner washers when I put in the governor spring kit and bigger delivery valves. Till then, they will wait.

:D I don't blame ya Todd, I wouldn't want to pull my injectors AGAIN either, maybe in a few weeks. :D

I swapped my injectors today too. Took out the Bosch 215's and put in Diesel Dynamics Stage 3's.

Noticed a MUCH smoother idle (compared to the 215's only!) and no more smoke than the 215's. Haven't put my foot into it yet, but I noticed the mid range torque has improved.

Very Pleased.

Good question

I have never tried the 370's. I had bought a set on a GP and I sold them. Joe D tried the Diesel Dynamics injectors, and really liked them. It was a tough call on which way to go. Price wise, they are about the same.

This is what I know:

Keith @ DD says their Stage III's make 8 hp less than a 370. He also went on to says they smoke less, idle better and are 10 times more streetable. ( a sales pitch, but it seems true).

Ted Jennety has the DD stage III's listed at his web page at an 80 HP increase. What the baseline injector they compare it too , I'm not sure.

This is what Joe D ( the Godfather of 12 Valve performance) said about the DD III's vs. 370's:

"I feel that the extra quality control and hand labor DD lavishes on his injectors result in a very fine product. Stock Bosch are very good, but as with any mass produced item, there is more possibility of variation in quality. I cannot estimate closely how likely it is that someone would get a less-than-ideal injector from Bosch. I would think the chances are rather small, but I know DD discards a fair number of new Bosch parts that don't meet his quality or performance standards.

Regarding DD3s vs. 370 Bosch for the 12 valve engine, both make a lot of hp and torque. Either of these injectors is close to the limit in power you can get from extra fueling while other engine components remain stock or lightly modified. The Bosch 370s have a fuel sac in the tip and that makes them richer at idle and low power conditions than the DD3s which do not. I anticipate that the DD3s would give somewhat better mpg especially in town driving. However, the DD3s cost more, due to the handwork and quality control procedures, and to their insistence that only the very best get boxed up for sale.

Note that my tests involve the 370 injectors that Piers and I worked up, and only some of the vendors offer that part number while others use another part as their 370 injectors. I cannot address these other injectors' performance characteristics as I haven't tried them.

I might also comment that a portion of the added value of DD injectors comes from their proprietary modification processes, procedures, and methods. Part comes from quality control, and part comes from use of only the best of new critical parts. Only recently did I investigate DD injectors as an alternative to Bosch, the standard we go by because it is OEM [original equipment manufacturer] in our Rams.

Here is an example that shows why I feel DD is not just a welcome exception to the run-of-the-mill or generic aftermarket or rebuilt injector, but also that DD gives us a new standard of quality. A Rammer whom I know recently dyno tested DD Stage 2 injectors against another vendor's Level 3 product at a third-party dyno installation. These tests were conducted at approximately 5000 ft. altitude. The "low-cost" injectors [not really much cheaper since we are comparing DD2 to those 3s] gave 303 hp and LOTS of smoke. The Stage 2 from DD gave 329 hp and very little smoke. I know from experience that DD Stage 3s would give even a bigger hp difference and still very little smoke.

Thus, it's worthwhile to shop carefully for best value, not just lowest price. "

Ok y'all>

How in the world do you keep the smoke off the rear of the truck and the towed trailer?I have to wash the trailer every time I use it. Soot all the way down the side. A real pain.

Preston:mad:

You must be putting out WAY more smoke than I am. I get no soot on my truck at all. My rear bumper gets a little bit of soot but nothing major.

Todd

Preston:

If you go go to a "turn down" chrome extension some of

the "soot" will be reduced on the back of your truck. My

situation is like Todd's. I do get some "soot" over a period

of time but not too bad. You can order the "turn down

chrome tip" from Geno's Garage.

I am also running a turn down and it has all but stopped the sooting of my trailer. The down fall is there are times I would like the stock set up back for those peskie hondas with exhausts as big as ours. LOL :D :D

drawson:

"Ditto" on the straight pipe for those "pesky little Hondas. "

I will soon have my 4" exhaust system on with the 5"

Geno's Chrome Extension Tip. That ought to do it!

You know John we have kind of moved together on our bombing runs. Just today I ordered the Jardine system for mine. Haven't got the 5" tip coming as of yet.

drawson:

You are right buddy, we have followed a "similar path"

on our BOMBING! I am curious to see how the HX-40/16

and the 4" exhaust is going to work on my truck.

John P, I am going down alittle differant path with the turbo. I am going to try a hybred 35 instead of a 40 but might end up with the 40.

If you are talking about Piers hybrid 35, you won't be disappointed. I had a chance to drive one this weekend on the truck from DTT and it's fantastic. DTT had it at the drags on Sunday and were very suprised their EGT's were much lower (I think 200 degrees) in the 1/4 mile.
