I have never replaced one but I think you can get the sensor a lot cheaper from Cummings. From what I have read it is not that difficult to change. You might want to try it yourself. There will be others respond to this. How many miles on it. I would think it would be covered.

I just called another dealer and they can get one for $63. I told them to not do it but they are charging me $81 to diagnose the problem. I even told them what the problem was when I went in! I will never go to a dealer again. Now I really think that the ban on calling dealers in this forum other names is just as ridiculous. Who in there right mind could charge $81 to confirm an error code that I told them! Then they want $369. 20 to change a part I can buy from them at $63 and change myself in 20 minutes with no special tools!

New direction for this...

Who can I e-mail to let Dodge know my opinion that I will never buy a new truck from them. They have crapped on me twice now when I brought my truck in for service and I went to 3 dealers to buy a new one and they all wanted ridiculous amounts of money over invoice.

Please, if someone could give me an e-mail address I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Crank sensors are "not " that hard to replace ideally. It took me an 1 1/2 to get mine out it was rusted in and I totally destroyed it getting it out and I am glad I had all my tools handy to do that job. The dealer that I bought my sensor from said it was a dodge part and not a cummins part there fore not under the 100k warrenty, not that bad at $65. I am sure it is a cummins part but I was not going to argue. It does sound like they are trying to take you up the butt for labor to replace it. I am sure that the "book" Flat rate for that job is under 1 hr, so it sounds like there hourly shop rate is $300 an hour, nice profit margain.

What crooks!!

Moderator, you can take this out of 911. I had the dealer holding my truck while I was making a decision on having it done or not and calling Dodge to see if anything could be done. I was hoping someone could give me some good quick advice. Since I'm not having them do it, you can move this post if you want.

Thanks

You can get the sensor from Cummins, cheaper than Dodge. I looked for my paperwork, but can't find. Sorry no help on the part # or cost. I change mine out about 10 months ago. Your's should be behind the starter. Disconnect the batts. Drop the starter, three bolts. The sensor has a metal bracket on it. Can't remember if there is one or two bolts holding sensor in place. If you can, take it with you to your nearest Cummins parts distributor. Csevers is right Dodge keeps them in the Cummins box and they slap their bar code on it. (Killer profit margin)

CKP

Had mine replaced the other day and the part was $81. 00 and was replaced in less than an hour. There is one bolt to hold it in and was abit of abugger to get out. Can e-mail me if like and can forward the bill to you or the DEALER !!!! Start to go in all the time to see what they are doing to" help or look" if they don't like it tell them will take it else were to have it done have done this for over 10 years and it is a requirement This is a none nogiatiable item . It can save one money if they are wasting time and parts. Get them to show you the hours in the book and RAISE HELLLL with WARRENTY line in the owners manual and phone them ever time you have a problem if they keep getting complaints about the dealers enought time they may do some thing!!!!! Get the persons name at warrent ask the time that it is to take?Hope that this helps. Any other help I could offer????Givem Hell :-{} :-{} :-{}

What do I do? They say my 2000 is not covered under warenty

I replaced my own after reading posts from other that had the same problem. I did a search for Tach bouncing, Tach, Tach dead etc. Almost every post had the same symptom's as I had. Most of them had had it replaced and the problem was fixed. My truck has run fine ever since I replaced my sensor. Being a TRW member paid off big.

um, I got my crank position sensor replaced under the 100k warranty. Here's my little sanity test I made the prove that it wasn't covered. By reading the warranty it states that all internal components to the engine are covered. I asked them, if I removed the sensor, will the engine leak oil..... the answer of course is yes. Therefore the sensor is internal to the engine and must be covered under warranty. I held thier feet to the fire and even went to dodge on the matter and had it covered under the 100k warranty.

Morph.

Crank sensor

I Think the # you are looking for is from cummins is 4001906 that is the sensor and the o-ring the # on the sensor itsself is 4001907 but you can only buy it with the o-ring on it

Hope this helps

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

Now get this, I got a voice message at work from the dealer. He said he had information about my truck and to call him back because it was good news.

I'm thinking great, the complaint I logged against them got them to rethink if it was covered under warenty.

I called him back, he put me on hold, then he proceeded to try to sell me a new truck!

I hate your service department. I think you rip people off with your pricing. What makes you think I want to buy a truck from you now. And on top of all this, where did you get my work phone number???? Obviously they hand out the information from the service department to the sales department!

Please tell me someone out there has a dealer that is actually good. Is it really that hard to do?

#@$%!

Thanks, I feel better now.
