i have a friend that wants more power out of a 94 3500 5 speed CTD,we already have an Hd clutch, guages, the TST torque plate,4" exhaust, ,and this truck put down 260 hp,630 ft lbs with just this. I'm thinking the next mods should be 370's,and a GSK,does this sound right?,Im wondering how much Hp we should gain, and do we need new delivery valve? We want to get the most we can without changing the turbo, this truck does no towing either. Thanks in advance.

Snow Man,

With the mods in my signature, Piers told me that I should be about 330hp. This is before I added his turbo. I figure the turbo and 14cm2 housing should give me at least another 20hp. I have stock delivery valves and the 370s run just fine. Most of the 94-95 pumps, especially the autos, need bigger delivery valves to run the 370s.

If he is looking for more, yes injectors would be next but will more than likely need more air unless you slide the plate back some. I too am at that point except I'm going to go with DD Injectors, my theory is look at what they have done in there R/D on injectors and also believe that you get what you pay for just depends where you money situation is.

Just a thought, As I've heard and run on, you can get as much out of that #5 as a #4. Why do I say that, Piers told me not to crowd my stock injectors with to much plate as they are not designed to massive fuel flow, I'll tell you they don't like it till they're cleaned out. I figure I have them on the ragged edge as well as the turbo, do the injectors instead of the plate..... just an opinion.

What's he have for air intake? Is he running a free-flow or bigger air filter?

One thing to consider is buying a good set of used 215 injectors. They can be purchased for about half the price of the 370s and should net about 25 more horses and 70 ft. lbs. of torque.

I'm going to be installing mine as soon as I get off my butt. :D

Go with the 4K set, then you wont have to redo them when you get other stuff and want more, and you will. With 4k GSK, 370s and a #11 plate I dynoed 389hp/880 torque.

I changed from the 4K to the 3K springs (replaced the small Piers springs w/stock small springs as per Piers) and went on a 3k mile trip. I don't like it. The engine pulls nowhere near as easy in the upper 2K range. Seems like you really have to stand on it to make it warm up the EGTs. I guess I'm just spoiled now. I'm going right back to the 4Ks. Much easier to drive and a much wider powerband for pulling a load through the gears.

Larry, that's interesting, do you have 60 lb. valve springs?

And if I haven't said it before, that's one nice rig you've built.

Ronnie

Thanks Ronnie. Yes, I put the 60lb springs in both exh and intake. I wanted to be able to use a higher back pressure on my e-brake for better brakeing. The ability to use the 4K gov kit was a real plus. One thing I do need to do before going back to the 4K is a fuel pressure gauge. It may be that I have a problem with the lift pump pressure causing it to run a little different but I'm quite sure it is the gov springs.

Larry, Are you still running the stock torque plate???

I just installed the 4K GSK for a buddy with the stock 215 plate and it was acting really strange. I adjusted the rocker and all that happened it the strangeness moved. So just for grins I put my #12 in and the problems where gone.

Just a thought... .
