I just returned home from vacation
and the Scheid Diesel Rally. I told
Koa Man, A-bomb, and David B. that I
would post some "results" so.....
here we go... ... .

Prior to the rally, Scheid Diesel
installed the 370 Diamond B injectors
in my truck along with the governor
spring kit and the AFC spring kit.
For those of you that don't remember,
I previously had posted about a "flat
spot" or "lag" on the low end after
having a new TC and valve body
installed. Well I am here to tell
you that the flat spot is GONE!!

"Koa Man" if you read this post
I sincerely want you to know how
much I appreciate all your input
in helping me decide to install
the 370 injectors.

Now for the "baseline" results
of all these modifications.

DYNO H. P. BEFORE MODS- 224
DYNO TORQUE BEFORE MODS-625

DYNO H. P. AFTER MODS- 381
DYNO H. P. AFTER MODS- 1069

0-60 time BEFORE MODS- 8. 92
0-60 time AFTER MODS - 6. 75

Top Speed BEFORE MODS- 104MPH
Top Speed AFTER MODS - 118MPH

(Note: I had planned to run
the truck on the drag strip at
the Scheid Rally on Sunday but
because of rain they had to
cancel this. I will do this
locally as soon as possible. )

SMOKE- Before the modifications
I had black smoke off the line
but then it would clear up. If
I accelerated at 60-80 it would
smoke until I let off the throttle.
NOW, I seem to have less black
smoke on take-off but when I push
the throttle hard between 60-80
it seems no worse than before.
Loaded and level takeoffs, smoke
is acceptable.

EGT'S- The EGT'S don't seem
any worse than they did before the
modifications. The first run that
I took from Scheid Diesel's Terre
Haute shop, I punched it all the
way to the floor and held it there
until I got to 115 MPH! The EGT
gauge was reading 1215 degrees.
That is with the probe in the
exhaust manifold. Air temp. that
day was about 82 degrees. This run
was witnessed by John Pezan from
Scheid Diesel and my wife who was
sitting in the back seat!! On my
way home the air temperatures were
slightly higher than they were in
Indiana, and I pushed the truck on
some 4-5% grades on I-77 in VA.
and one time I did have to let off
some as the EGT was creeping above
1350!

The difference in the throttle
response is VERY noticeable! When
I accelerate now the truck will
continue to pull up to 3400 RPM.
Before the modifications to the
pump, the governor began cutting
fuel off at about 2600 RPM. Now,
it goes right past that and on top
end I go past my old top speed of
104 FAST and the engine continues
to pull hard to it's new top speed.

I am very happy with the results
of all these modifications. I want
to sincerely thank Dan Scheid, and
his following staff of people at
Scheid Diesel,(Terre Haute) for
everything they did for me: John
Pezan (J. P. ), John Wood, Kent,
Lloyd, Larry.

Koa Man, Piers, Joe Donnelly:
Thanks for the help on the advice
of the 370 Diamond B injectors!

The "flat spot" is GONE!!!!!!!

Piers:

I almost forgot!

I really like my new "BD Jacket"!!
I wore it most of the way home
until I got back into the "hot

finally met you!! Thanks for
all of your advice and friend-

Man I sure do miss Texas fajitas!

Anyway, good luck with your
modifications! I hope you are
as happy as I am!

John P,
I am REAL HAPPY to hear that the 370s worked as well for you as it did for me. I bet you just love that L/S TC now huh? Since it eliminated the flat spot on your truck with the 3:54 rears, I guess it would be safe to recommend them to anyone who currently has a "flat spot. " Just one caution, 94-95 Rams with the auto trans have experienced a stumble with the 370s around 11-1200 rpm, although it doesn't seem to be a problem with the bigger 96 or later pump.

<font color=blue>I used to live in the area as well..... I lived of of F. M. 2920 and I attended Klein Oak High School. I remember playing Humble in football all the time, and I also went to the "club" Wilson's alot as well (country bar) Lived there from Dec 89 until August 94. I loved being only about 5 miles down the road from Splashtown.
I miss alot of things about Texas... ... miss Colorado too... . Nebraska just doesn't compare to either of the two.

Koa Man:

Thanks for responding to my post!
I was hoping you were "surfing"
this web site because I especially
wanted you to know how well every-
thing went for me.

You are right, I do like the L/S
TC now! And as you said we now both
know that it will work for the 3. 54
gears as well as the 4. 10'S like
you have. I was unaware that the
94-95'S experienced that "stumble"
you mentioned. Good thing we have
the later pumps!

Again, my sincere thanks for all
your input the last month or so.
I hope that one day I can meet
you in person at a rally or maybe
there in Hawaii.

Kat Diesel:

It was good to see your post about
living in Texas! I wish I would
have known that when I talked to
you at the Scheid Rally. You were
there during some of the same
years I was.

Anyway, I guess this is not really
"Engine and Drivetrain" so I'll
stop here. Thanks!

MDW,
If you have the 175hp pump, the 370s will probably work just fine. I believe it is only the 160 hp pump that has the stumbling. You might want to try it out first, you may not need the bigger delivery valves.

[This message has been edited by Koa Man (edited 10-01-2000). ]

I have a 95 dodge with a standard trans and I did not any stumbling problems with the 370 injectors. I would try the injectors before doing delivery valves. You might have idle problems if you do delivery valves. I get all my advice from Joe Donnely.
If it stumbles maybe you need timing advance.

Don't you guys with the 370 injectors see a large cloud in your mirror at night with headlights behind you?My truck runs good but I feel a little guilty when I step on it and look in the right mirror and see the light colored haze I don't notice it much at all in the day time.

There is a light haze, not too bad if I gently roll on the throttle. I am using the med. AFC spring and smoke control is much better, altho the very very low end response is not as good as the soft AFC spring. The soft spring would produce a large cloud of black smoke even with the star wheel turned all the way (away from engine). Med. spring has dark gray smoke on hard take off, light haze otherwise, with star wheel now turned all the way (toward engine). With star wheel in middle position, hardly any smoke but low end response sucked, had the "flat spot" again. I want to put it a stack exhaust, that way the smoke will not be as bothersome to others.

Thanks for the reply koaman, sounds like mine,if I adjust the afc for no puff I miss the snappy response,I haven't changed either spring yet, have been thinking about the govenor spring but the price is crazy for what ya get I think. What about the mpg did it drop off 1-2 mpg?

[This message has been edited by ramman (edited 10-02-2000). ]

I don't know what my mpg is. I don't check it anymore since I fill up from an above ground 600 gal. tank, gravity flow with no meter. (Fuel is much cheaper that way #ad
) Since I had the flatbed installed a few months ago my mpg has gone down quite a bit with all the air drag from the headboard sticking two feet above the cab. I also run 80% of the time loaded or towing since this is a work truck. If I had to venture a guess, I would say I am probably getting about 12 mpg.

ramman:

The smoke on my truck since I have
done all the modifications is about
the same as KoaMan described. I do
not feel that the smoke is any worse
than it was before.

As far as miles per gallon, I checked
three tankfuls coming back from
Indiana to North Carolina. This was
on the interstates running between
75-80 MPH. My fuel mileage was as
follows: 17. 2, 17. 6, 17. 4. Prior to
the 370 injectors and all the pump
modifications (gov. sprg kit, AFC
sprg. kit) I averaged between 17. 7
to 18. 0. So I figure I've lost about
3-4 tenths per gallon. However, to me,
the increased power is worth the lower
fuel mileage. I have never gotten the
20+ MPG I read some of the members
getting with their trucks, but I
don't run 70 MPH either! My old 92'
Dodge CTD used to get 19-20 MPG but
it was stock with 160 H. P.

I hope this has helped you.

If I ever get back to Houston I will

Hey guys, all of you with the TST #5, 370 injectors, govenor spring kit, and afc spring kit, do you still have your stock turbo's? The above combination that many of you are running is what I think I am going to go for. Just wondering...

Kelly Safari MSR 285 75 16, K&N airfilter.

I am still running the stock turbo. EGTs can get to 1300+ real quick uphills or towing. Not much of a problem on level ground. I will probably try out a 16cm2 housing to see how I like it, since where I live has a lot of hills and I tow 80% of the time. Hopefully I won't be losing too much on the low end.

Swamp Donkey:

Like "Koa Man" I am also still running
the 12cm stock housing. I have run the
truck in town and on the interstates
in weather that was 80-85 degrees,
humidity in the low 90's. So far I
have not had a problem with the EGT'S
which surpises me! Like Koa Man I also
tow quite a bit and as of yet have not
"put the truck through it's paces" while
towing my racing trailer or tractor. I
will let you know how this goes.

In talking with Piers Harry and Joe
Donnelly I am probably going to have
to go up to a 16cm housing eventually.
However, I drove a 95 Dodge with "heavy"
modifications and a 16cm housing at the Mesquite, Nevada TDR Rally a couple of
years ago and that truck had terrible
take-off power until you got the RPM'S
up! I feel it was worse than my truck
BEFORE the installation of the 370'S
and the pump mods. (i. e.gov. sprg kit
AFC sprg. kit).

What I may do is try the 14cm housing
FIRST and go from there. I believe
Joe Donnelly told me he had some
extras when I spoke to him on the
phone a few nights ago. I have read
and heard other members say they are
a good "match" for the automatics.
The bottom end on my truck is so
good now I hate to lose that! Like
Koa Man said "We sure like our low
stall torque converters now. "

Swamp Donkey, I hope this has helped
you. If you change your housing after
the installation of the injectors etc.
please let us know how the truck runs.

Thanks!

MDW:

You are going to be REALLY HAPPY
after you get your 370 injectors
and the governor and AFC spring
kits installed in your truck.

I could not believe the difference
in the amount of power I had after
everything was installed.

Please let us know what you think.
