When it comes time for me to get all of my dream parts, that is when I will do a little more investigating of turbo housings. Maybe by then you will have that figured out too, and be able to give me a little advice. #ad
As it is right now, 1300 - 1350 egt's are seen with only a TST #6 installed all the way forward. This is on an empty truck, so backing off the "GO" pedal for egt purpuses will be nothing new to me.

Hey Guys I think you will be happy with the 16 housing. I am running a similar set up and empty no egt trouble untill I go above 3000 rpm in high gear. Towing with the small housing (13k 5th wheel) Didn't work for me. Now with the 16 I can pull the 5er up an 8% grade at 60 mph 1300 egt and only half throttle. As you can see I still can't use all the power. After a clutch I will be heading for an HX-40. With the proper fueling as you have I have no noticeable lag.

John P, Are you the guy who had a Scheid loaner truck at the KOA Fri. night?

Nice Dodge, glad it worked out. you seemed like you wanted to be driving instead of show & shining!

BPINE:

Thanks for your input!

Do you have ANY KIND of a "flat spot"
or "lag" on the bottom end with your
16 housing? As you probably read
above I drove a "heavily" modified
95 Dodge CTD that had a 16 with an
automatic and the takeoff was
terrible. Both Joe and Piers have
told me I need to go up on my housing
size but the low end "lag" bothers
me with the automatic. I just got
that problem solved with the addition
of the 370's and the pump mods.
Before that the new TC had me worried!
Also, what is the H. P. "rating" of
the "Diesel Dynamics" Stage #2 inj's?
Your truck looks like it is close in
engine mods to mine and "Koa Man's. "

Swamp Donkey:

Thanks for your input!

I want to try & do something pretty
soon on this housing situation. I
know the larger ones help the EGT's
but to be honest, right now I have
not had a problem with the EGT's
since I had all the modifications
done to my truck. However, I
haven't towed my trailers yet
either!

MGM:

Thanks for the nice comment on my
truck! I am real happy with the
truck since "Scheid Diesel" worked
on it.

Yes, that was me in that Scheid
Diesel "loaner" truck at the KOA
Campground on Friday night. Actually
it belonged to John Pezan (J. P. )
from the Terre Haute shop. He was
nice enough to let me use it to
come meet you guys while they
finished up on the modifications.

As far as the "Show and Shine" we
did get eight (8) votes but we
definitely were no match for Tom's
black 2000 Dodge 4X4 Dually! That
is on good looking truck!

Hi everyone
this is my first post. . hopefully I am doing this right. Trust John when he says that his truck is awesome because I have driven it and it is one bad Dodge Truck. Mid-range on the truck is incredible. Can't wait for John's next brainstorm on "power" . . sure it will be a good one.

Well Roy, welcome to the TDR Website!!!!
I am so glad you finally made it in.
Sure took you long enough! And yes
"you did it right" Roy!! As you always
do.

The other TDR Website members need to
know that you are the LEAD Dodge CTD
Technician at "National Dodge" in
Jacksonville, N. C. Roy takes care
of all the Cummins Turbo Diesels
that come into their dealership and
does "one **** of a job for us!"
Another TDR member, namely, "Pete
Peterson" will tell you the same
thing. Roy has personally done
almost all the routine maintenance
on my truck including the install-
ation of the "Prime Loc",and install
of a "Transgo Shift Kit. "

If you are ever in need of service
in our area I highly recommend him!

Roy, it is great to have you aboard!

Well, well, well, little boy Roy finally made it ! #ad
! glad to see your here!! i know you have been reading this for a long time but now you can post, so thats great! Regards Pete

Hey John sorry it took me so long to get back to the site I have been very busy. Well I have very little if any lag with the 16 housing but automatics are a differn't story. It is possible to make an auto with 16 work but you have to not be afraid to pour the fuel to them. It is nothing a light AFC spring and a few adjustments won't cure. The DD Stage II's are good for about 40 hp, as soon as I get a clutch I might try stage III's. #ad

I was thinking on going this route of modification on my truck.
What else is required other than the gov. spring kit, injectors, fuel plate, afc spring, and (possibly?) a 16cm housing?
Will I need to retime it? I spoke to a local cummins dealer, and he didnt seem to want to do this for me. "Whats wrong with it, dont it run good?" etc. etc. You know the story.....
I tow a 24' TT, but not very often. Would EGT be a consearn for me?

Patriot, Go for it. The set up I'm running right now is the best I've ever had for towing!!! #ad

BPINE:

Thanks for your input on the 16 housing.
If you have "very little lag" I have a
feeling I will have "alot of lag" with
the automatic. And that I don't want. I
may just try the 14 to start with. I am
going to give this alot of thought.

Patriot:

Like "drawson" said "Go for it!" I
could not agree with him more! As he
said this IS the ultimate set-up for
towing or "just driving around. "

To answer some of your questions, I
am running the #5 TST plate (dawson
has the equivalent #11 for his 5 spd. )
370 Diamond B injectors, governor
spring kit and the AFC spring kit.
Patriot, you will have to "re-time"
it as you said. With this "set-up"
the recommendations are between 15-
16 degrees. I am no expert on this
but my understanding is that this
timing "setting" helps to reduce
the smoke, lower exhaust gas temps.
(somewhat) and is supposed to help
the mileage. These "technical points"
were ALL true for my truck. I believe
"drawson" would tell you the same
thing. As far as the EGT's, since I
have had all this work done I have
not noticed a "substantial" increase
there. However, it has been cool here
and I have not towed any of my trailers
yet! I am sure you have read this
entire posting. Up above, I posted
my observations (Before & After) of
how my truck ran including the EGT
results.

Patriot, I hope this has helped you
some. Believe me, before I did this
I was confused too. "Koa Man" really
helped me reach a decision as well as
Joe Donnelly, Piers Harry, Dan Scheid
and John Pezan at "Scheid Diesel. "

You won't be sorry you did it!!

Good Luck!

I thought this was kind of neat. This is the engine where the 370 HP injectors come from.
#ad

And now there's a new Diamond Performance B Series engine that's going to leave the competition awash in its wake ~ the 370B ~ an engine with the best power-to-weight ratio in the world. It's tough and powerful, cranking up 370 metric horsepower (272kW), to get you out of the hole and on plane in seconds. The 370B is loaded with advanced features .

While the 370B is the Cummins Marine flagship, the company offers a whole range of four and six cylinder Diamond Performance B Series engines. At Kelly's you can choose from anything in the 155-370 metric horsepower range. There is naturally a choice of aspirated, turbocharged and turbocharged/aftercooled engines.

How does this route affect the MPG's? I want "Mo power" but dont want to kill the mileage.
I drive mostly 45-60 MPH, on semi country roads. To work (where I'm usually going) is 35 miles. I have about 6 lights, and the speed limit is 50 most of the way.
TIA

Patriot, I am getting the same or slightly better with my 370 HP injectors and 16 CM2 housing than before. I drive 22 miles to work every day. I use two different routes in the morning I use a back road which I only get into 5th for about 5 miles or so. On the way home it all freeway 70+ I got 20. 2mpg last week which is up from an average of 19. 8mpg. Go for you'll like it! #ad

John, I recently met you at our friend Dondi's wedding. Really enjoyed talking trucks with you. And for all you guys who haven't seen this rig, let me tell ya it's bad to the bone. I have a brand new 01' that I thought was bad until I seen this red monster. John, good luck with all your modifications and let's see those ET's from the strip. I think you may have a 15, maybe 14 second truck on your hands.

D. Duncan:

Heh, it is good to hear from you! I
was wondering what happened to you.
I still have not had a chance to get
over to "Coastal Plains Raceway" to
run the quarter mile. I may be able
to do it this weekend. I posted to
all of the members on this thread that
as soon as I towed one of my trailers
I would give the results. Well, I towed
the racing trailer this last weekend so
here are the results:

1. ) EGT'S-
At a constant speed of 75-80 MPH
running on mostly level highway
with a few smaller hills my EGT
stayed between 900-1000 degrees F.
(Note: My probe is in the exhaust
manifold. )
If I accelerated slowly, the EGTS
would climb some but were "control-
lable. "
I found that if I kept adding fuel
the EGTS could "creep-up" to redline
(1300-1350).

2. ) POWER AVAILABILITY-
At NO TIME did it feel as though I
could be in ANY situation where I
wouldn't have enough power. (Note:
Pulling this same trailer when the
truck was COMPLETELY stock would
cause me to have the accelerator
"all the way to the floor" in the
mountains on 4-5% grades. )

3. ) TOP SPEED-
Prior to all the pump work and the
install of the 370's the top speed
"with the trailer" was 92 MPH.
(I did have the TST Plate ONLY!)
New top speed: 104 MPH.

The trailer I pull is an 18 ft. "Pace
American "Conquest" with high ceilings
(7') ramp door, roof air conditioner and dual axles. Empty weight is 3800 lbs.
With what is inside I am right at 8,000
lbs.

I intend to tow my MF tractor on the
20' flatbed trailer soon. That combin-
ation is a little over 12,000 lbs.

Duncan, thanks for posting to me!
