I have a 370 Marine cam for my 96 Dodge truck and before I put it in I was wondering from some of you with experience in these matters as to if the 370 cam will help with performance or if I should go ahead and send the cam somewhere to be reground to a different spec before I put the cam in my truck. Oh ya and where to send it to get it reground out for my truck. Any ideas would be appreciated.

from what i've heard, i would not do it. some of the marine stuff works good on OTR applications, some of it doesn't. i would recommend getting one from Piers or DD.

Get in touch with Joe Donnelly or Keith or Piers before you do that. They have the experience to tell you why you shouldn't and why that JD went through 18 camshafts helping DD develop the one they sell now.

No way in heck would I try anything less.

Do it right, do it once. The DD cam will probably be my next upgrade after the turbo. :D

Don't bother with the marine cam.

Oh, and wade... I think Joe only got to try 3 or 4. It was Lawrences blue truck (the one that got the P-pump in the end) that needed the zipper. 21 cam swaps in about 3 months.

I tried the marine cam.

Spoolup is bad, but power at a constant EGT of 1200° is up.

It might work for someone who hotshots all day and keeps the RPMs up.

For a daily driver, ESPECIALLY with an auto trans or a larger than stock turbo, it's a step in the wrong direction.

I swapped to a PDR cam after the marine cam and the spoolup is MUCH improved over the marine version. All around driveability is drastically improved.

DD makes great products, always has.

I would recommend either one over the marine version.

If the marine cam is "new in box", you might ask to trade it in to get a break from DD since they use a marine cam as the donor stick. Keith- sounds like you guys got pretty good at changing out camshafts. :)

Keith that is real good time as I can read it's a PITA till you get it down, kind of like 12V pumps it takes 45Min to put it on the bench.

I have heard a saying recently: "Experience and expertise is a billiable item".

The book calls for 27hrs to do that job. Just because someone is that good to do it in 3. 5, does that mean they should only be paid for 3. 5? :)
