How long did the fueldelivery system last before problems???

warranty question on exhausts

That wasn't so bad... took me about 2 hours (an part of that was chasing those pesky little banjo washers!). Got it started and had a problem with the forward-most injector: it wasnt seated properly and was bubbling with fuel... so I had to take it apart again and fix it. The truck now runs killer!... although I know Im leaving plenty on the table. I dont know what you guys are talking about with the spacing washers. I installed what came with the 370s, and will gladly re-do the job once I figure the spacing thing out. Can any of you explain what I am looking for?

The factory injectors all have brass washers were the injector seats into the head. The new 370's also have washers on the injectors and if you got them from Piers or other reputable dealers then there is also a bag of washer supplied. The factory washers and the ones in the extra bag are 0. 020" thick. The washers that come on the 370's are 0. 060" thick. The factory 0. 020" or the supplied 0. 020" washers should give a little extra HP/ reductions of smoke. The 0. 060" washers will work fine and I do not know the exact gain of HP for the washers but I figure it is very small probably not even noticable... But every little bit does help.

Heard something a while back about the flame front smashing the pistons with the wrong washers.

Joe D(I think?) was supposed to do some dyno runs and post the results, but I might have missed them.

BCFast, did you have to adjust your idle? I did on mine, it was wayyy too slow after the injectors.

Thanks for the relpies... Was looking at the 215's and see a thin copper washer, not sure how I'd get it off... it sure is stuck on there! Even though my stock clutch is weak, it still isnt slipping... and the truck is pretty fast now. I cant immagine the kind of power you guys must have!

This thing runs like an F-15~!!!! The pavement was damp this evening and it fishtails like mad in the top of 4th!!! I just hate the de-fueling at 2600-or-so... . like you said Larry, time for the 4k kit!!!

All right- time for the question that I ask every time. What do those do to the mileage (once you get your foot out of it:D )? I am stuck between the 370s and dd3s. The price is the huge difference. Ken Jones says that he will put some dd3s in for 540. He wanted 600, but I mentioned that you guys said that DD gives us a 20% discount and he said he could go 10% less. He origionally said 600 installed. What would you do? Piers only wants 300 bucks for the 370s. Ether way I will have to get some delivery valves too I guess. Another 250 bucks. :( I can buy quite a bit of fuel for 240 bucks, but "the bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten". The saying I live by. :)

Oh ya, where do I get that socket for the delivery valves?

Yes, someone please tell me why I should take my 370's out and put DD3's in.

Surely there are some dyno numbers showing the HP difference, to justify the cost.

CAnderson

I've had the 370's installed for about 6 months. I bought mine from Carls group purchase so there is some question as to weather they are the same as the ones from Piers.

I have done no other mods to my pump. Average milage dropped about 3 mpg. I've been told that if I adjust my timeing that I could gain my mpg back but I havn't gotten around to finding someone to do this.

The smoke has increased some. Mostly when I get on it hard.

You'll notice the stock air cleaner gets clogged up fast, the BHAF took care of that. I would do it again. The trans is next. I dont think it can handle any more power.

CAnderson, I have had my 370s in for alittle over a year and shortly after i put them in I was down in Vegas and had Joe Donnelly advance my timing to 16 deg. I might have lost alittle milage in town but I picked up about 1/2 mpg on the freeway with these 370s. They came right from Joe D, so I know they are the right ones.

Gene,

Call Piers or see if you can get ahold of Joe D. (search the forum, I think he's talked about these lately). Somebody correct me here, but I'm not sure the dd3's are enough different to justify the $ differences, particularly when the 370's can be had for $300. I've had my 370's since summer and I'm real happy. However I've never had the dd3's so I can't compare.

Use the $ for a GSK, maybe?

I remember reading that John_P ( I think that's his handle) lost about 1/2 - 1 MPG with the install of his 370's. He other had other pump mods done at the same time so this probably had an effect on his fuel economy.

I have had my 370 in for about 6 months. If I am in it I get around 16-17 empty. If I drive normal I get 19. 5-20. 5. This equals out because after a new mod my milage is way down from hot rodding then it evens out. Overall when the truck was stock it got 17. 4 MPG ave. With all thats done to it now it gets 18. 6 MPG ave.

I think that Joe D posted a long time ago that there was a 8hp difference in the injectors, in the test he ran. 370's had 8hp more, dd3 smoked a lot less.

Not sure but less smoke may translate into better fuel ecomony.

Personally after riding around in Piers' truck, that has 370's, its all in how you get it setup and dialed in. 370's dont need to smoke that bad, just gotta know how.

Get the 370's and let the master do his thing.

370's

I have the 370's in my truck and love them! With the timing advanced to 16 deg there seems to be no noticable differance in fuel mileage, heck it might be better than with the 215's:D I dunno for sure because I haven't checked it. I think also smokes less while under light throttle, but put it to the floor and the cars behind you will disapear!:) Bottom line, get the 370's, you won't be disapointed!

timing

New to the sight, and to diesels but sure have learned a lot for you guys already. I live a 5000ft msl and go to Colorado a lot which is around 8000msl would I also set my timing to 16 degrees or have to adjust for the altitude. I will be installing 370s this spring, thanks 1st timer hope I did this right...

I log every tank of fuel I put in my truck. My truck got 14-16 mpg from day one at 160 HP. Now at 450+ HP I still get 14-16 mpg in town. I got my 370's from Joe D and noticed no difference in fuel mileage. I expected to see a lower fuel mileage when I dropped the compression, but that did not occur.

If you aren't changing the efficiency of the motor you won't see a change in mileage.

I log my mpg's as well, and will let you all know any differences. Even without a timing change, this truck hauls butt!! . . and egt's dont seem to be an issue either... not with a BHAF and big exhaust. It is going to be very hard to keep my foot out of it for a tank or two... this thing is a riot! I recall a Joe D. article or thread explaining the efficiency of larger injectors... something about the same amount of fuel at a more precise moment... . makes sense and 'should' equate to better economy. My last fill-up yielded 23. 78mpg on the 215's... . we'll see! Thanks for all the help, gentlemen!!!

I don't know what you granny types are doing to achieve a 20ish average mileage. I drive mine from home to school to work and back home and always get around 15 mpg. If I am mean to it I can get whatever single digit number you want. I can get about 20 on the highway if I don't let it cool down at any point, but that takes almost continuous driving to do. Do you guys live in your trucks? Another thing that I noticed is that the guys with manual trannys get better results with the 370s. Anyone else notice that?
