Would like to know what length of travel trailer or 5er you are pulling. ? What weight and your opinion on the 373s while towing? If you had to do it over, get 410s or stay with 373s? There has been a lot of info out there but who to believe. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee help me out.

THANKS IN ADVANCE

I have 3. 54 with auto and 33" tires. Too much for CA where you can only do 60 or so. Going across Nevada though is a whole different story  I can cruise at 2250-2300 at 75-80 with a six horse steel frame aluminum skin trailer behind me.

I have always had 4:10's on all my trucks used for towing. Unless all your towing is in the flatlands almost any trailer weight will tow better with 4:10. As far as mileage goes, that's more dependent on how you drive. I tow a trailer now with a GVW of 15,100 although I never load it up that heavy. I have towed a 5th wheel that weighed 7800# with 4:10 and you hardly knew it was back there.

3.73 rear end

I have a 04 2wd 2500 QC CDT LWB that I tow a 9100# 5th wheeler. I tow at about 65 mph since the trailer tires are rated for that speed. On flat land, I tow in overdrive, but in the mountains of New Mexico or Colorado, I'll tow in Tow/haul mode and depending on the grade, I'll drop down to 2 gear in my R48E auto transmissions.

No problems to date. When I tow the 9100 # 5th wheeler at 65 mph on flatland, I'll get about 12 - 13 mpg. In the mountains, depending on grade, I'll get between 11 - 12 mpg.

I agree that the 4. 10 rear end will tow great, but I wanted the 3. 73 for when I wasn't towing. For my needs, the 3. 73 rear end is good especially when you factor in the cost of diesel. :)

33' 5th wheel around 18,000lbs with 3. 54's. This setup works well for me, but if I had a choice, I'd switch to 3. 73's. 4. 10's are too much for everyday non-towing. JMO

Iam happy with my 3. 73 maybe if I towed full time I might consider 4. 10 but I have no problems or complaints towing 30' 5er

It also helps to not be 100% stock, you dont need any big mods for towing but an extra 50hp and 100ft lb tq are a very nice addition over stock for any gear set

373s with Auto on my "03" with the 31' 5er hooked up we are at 20K, tow all over the west coast states, no problems keeping the RPMs in the sweet spot.

Only towed up to 8000 with this truck... but very pleased with the 3. 73's in mine. I have 33" tires and no engine mods (yet) and like the combo (especially for trying to keep fuel mileage decent).
