I watched an ETH dyno'ed at Diesel Dynamics today. 383 hp. VERY nice. NO BOXES. Amazing. DD injectors and boost module, HX40 turbo with 4" exhaust. He tweaked the pump for 2 degrees more advance but made no other pump enhancements. I was expecting that I would have to hang a bundle of wires in front of the poor old 24 valve just to get it to climb up the dyno roller #ad

I guess I have to respect the overvalved overwired cousins a bit more, seeing what a mechanically-enhanced one did.

Maybe we will have to get along after all #ad
, undervalved and overvalved, to gang up on the common rail cousins that will be here any time now #ad

I didn't know the timing could be adjusted on the 24V. Is this just done with the numbered pump drive keys?

Stage 3 injectors and boost module. Inside the pump there is an advance plate that he changed to one with 2 degrees advance (a small effect on hp and a bit better mpg). "Don't try this at home" because aligning the pump innards isn't straightforward when reassembling it, even if you could find or make the advance plate.

Basically you could expect around 370 hp+ without the pump advance. It just happened that this was the pump he used at the time.

Whaddaya think the hp would have been if he had hung a bunch of boxes off the pump wires #ad
and then had put his super secret [censored] into the pump? Not bad for a little ol' very trying pump, eh, Piers #ad

All that on just #2 diesel fuel #ad

Joe, You've given me some excitement to look forward to when I go to the Central CA BOMB session in Modesto and have Nowel install my new 4" Jardine exhaust, DD Stage 3's and boost module #ad

I know that I will be looking you up later this year for a new clutch #ad
, but I had kind of been wondering what I might expect from those BOMBs.

Any idea how much HP potential lies in a modified pump? Doesn't DD sell modified pumps? Could this be an alternative to achieve high hp/torque without using a box and all the associated warranty hassles?

SheepDip,

A dyno graph at the Diesel Dynamics webpage puts an ETH w/ an HX-40, boost module & DD III's at 360HP @ 67-68 MPH. Peak torque is 690 ft lbs at about 2700 RPM's.

See it here: http://www.dieseldynamics.com/

DD can modify the pump to give around 50 hp but it is expensive right now because of the cost to get ultra-precision parts machined. He found the HX40 to be good for around 25 hp, and the timing maybe 10 hp.

Not so long ago, 380 hp was an almost unreachable goal for our B engines. Now you can simply buy it and the truck will look almost stock. Injectors, boost module/box, fueling boxes, Superturbo, clutch--all these parts are available, now that the research has been done.
