I got my new replacement lift pump yesterday, and will be puttin' it in this weekend. Any tips for the install?

The new pump is a lot smaller than the stock one, will the fit match up?

Also, I never tested the pressure on my stock unit (3935888), but am showing symptoms of it going south (loss of power, stumbles, rough idle/starts). Is there a way to test the vp44 for any wear or damage? I'd hate to not go through warranty and then the big pump go out.

Match Up

I would by all means check the pressures before you remove your old pump. Other wise you're shooting in the dark. This will also give you a better idea on the possibe damage to the VP-44. I think you should install the gauge permanently. See my post "Easy and Cheap Fuel Pressure Gauge" 8-7-01, for an idea on this.

I'm also interested in knowing about the match-up as I plan to buy a new pump to carry with me as a spare. May have to install it on the side of the road. :(

Might want to verify the part number on the pump with the box. I just changed mine about a month ago and the replacement (from Cummins) was identical in appearence to the original.
