That sucks big time. :( I have the chipped key and had a home depot made. It allows you in the truck but, only the starter will spin the engine, but no start. So worst case you end up with a dead batttery/ burned out starter.

The longer the truck is gone, the more likley you don't want the truck back.

I think we need to come up with a security tape that is activated when alarm is set a recording that says you are unauthorized to drive this vehicle & will self destruct in 10 seconds.

I've got a hidden switch for the starter & I always use it, even at home in my own garage.

Good luck hope the wait isn't too long.

You know, it used to be a hanging offense, stealing a man's transportation. Should still be. Then maybe, so many wouldn't be stolen.

Part of the problem, at least in AZ, is if a vehicle is involved in a crime, it is imponded and not returned, so the crooks (illegal alian runners most likely) steal a vehicle so that they don't loose any personal property if they are caught.

When you get a vehicle stolen, does the insurance cover all the accessories you've added to it?

no mine was stolen 2003 allstate paid for the truck not for cb, edgebox, gauges, lites, even with recipts

I'm wondering about adding a supplmental alarm that would alert on shock, broken glass, etc.

Any suggestions?

Hell Yeah, mine is the 40 S&W... ... ... .

I don't know if it is still available but I had the MOPAR IT-s unit added to the factor alarm. "The Interior Theft Sensor uses infrared technology to protect the contents of your vechicle. Guards against tampering, theft of parts, accessories and contents. " The part number was 82207152 and cost $130 MSPR at the time.

Thanks Artie. I think that is what I'm looking for.

loganHill02... If you'd actually shoot somebody in the process of boosting your radio... then you're a bigger fool than he is. You have more to lose. You'd go to jail and he'd have lawyers standing in line to help him take every asset you own.

Besides, what are you going to do? Watch over your truck all day from behind a bush with S&W in hand?

Maybe Bombero would be your cell mate -- he's the guy that wanted to shoot somebody for towing a backhoe.

Tough talk is cheap -- especially on the Internet.

If you actually own a gun, get real. Be smart. And don't give gun ownership a bad rep for the rest of us.

Not that this would help but we had a rash of stolen newer motorcycles in the NW last year. Most of the bikes were almost new some were only a couple years old.

When they finally caught up with the people that were stealing the bikes they found out how it was done.

A person that worked at the deal had been keeping track of the bikes coming in and out of the dealer. They were making keys and writting down owners address.

At night all they would do is hop on the bike with the key start it up and ride off with the bike.

Took less then 10 seconds for the bike to be stolen.

There were 6 people arrested from what I heard.

I would look into the dealer that you bought the truck from. Not saying they were involved but you never know with a special key like that.

May even try and find out if the police can trace any stolen trucks in your area back to who the trucks were bought from. This may lead them right back to the same dealer over and over again.

Update

Adjuster wants to wait 30 days to settle. He states they have been getting some back, no rear seat, dirty, and out of fuel, seems they just leave them where they are when they run out. At $65 to fill the thing up I am glad that it had less then a quarter tank when it was taken, should only get about 60 miles out of it unless they fill up.

The real bummer about this is there are $3250 in incentives on an already heavily reduced price that are going away Nov 1st on the 04's. Ins will not settle until at least Nov 12th, thats enough for me that I will have to shop used, may even just look for a good 02. :(

4. 5, 3500, DRW, six speed, illegal hauler, border runner, 4x4

Should have just kept my 99.

I'd be pretty surprised if Lojack covered the entire country. That would mean every police department would have to be equipped.

I checked the Lojack FAQ here: http://www.lojack.com/lojack-faqs/index.cfm, but the question about coverage only took me to their "find a dealer" function. (I think this is a bug in their website. )

If they had complete nationwide coverage, you'd think they'd just say so. Maybe they don't say so, because if there was an area without coverage, that'd be the first place to take a stolen car.

I'm not so concerned about theft of the whole vehicle -- got the optional security with electronic key, engine immobilizer, etc. I think that'll do a good job against unauthorized starting. But there's really no protection against break in, vandalism, etc. without adding something.

Even with the basic Lojack, you don't know your truck is missing until you see the empty parking spot. If one where spending $$$$ for Lojack anyway, the one with the notification feature would seem a better choice.

Even if you order the optional security package which gets you the chipped key/engine immobilizer, an alarm will not go off for broken glass, shock, etc.

A thief could break glass and enter through a window to steal your radio, electronics, valuables, etc. and the factory security system would never know.

From the DODGEPARTS site, it states that the EVSII system (factory) has the Dual stage shock sensors... seems to be a good system. I might have to look into it farther.

Ins Adjuster stated he has not had one vehical stolen that has had a chipped key, pretty interesting, have to do things differently next time.

Hey Im the biggest gun rights member on this forum... ... . I wouldnt shoot anyone its a joke, and . 40 S&W is a caliber, not necessarily the model of gun so watch who you try to say is giving who a bad name.

BTW the rolleyes thing sounds gay.

I would love for someone to steal my truck so I didnt have to pay for it anymore.

Oh yeah I hate Sen. John Kerry's guts! Democrat.

Whoa cowboy! You seem a little incensed!

Maybe we'll talk some more over in "Politics". But I'm an NRA Lifer with a picture of George W. on my mantle.

In the meantime, I'm sure glad I got me some of these... :-laf

Thanks for the comment from you insurance adjuster. I hope the pro thieves won't figure an easy way to defeat it anytime soon.

Your plight reminds me of another issue regarding insurance. Many lenders now offer "gap" insurance that will make up the difference if an insurance payoff comes up short compared to the loan balance. My lender charged a one time $210. for this coverage. The gap insurance also pays the $1,000 deductible should the vehicle be classed a "total loss".

With such an expensive vehicle, the possibility of owing more than insurance will pay off is very real.

I really hope you come out okay on this. We tend not to think about this stuff too much. Until it happens.

Artie

Thanks for the tip on the Interior Theft Sensor. I found that part number at a good price ($117. 00) here:

http://store.rtautoparts.net/doraminthse.html

I'm gonna go for it.

Lojack is a bit pricey for me, especially with the notification feature. I think I'll rely on my Sentry key/engine immobilizer combined with the ITS.
