Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 3k gov. kit?

what exactly does a 3k or 4k gov. spring kit do the the p7100 pump? i have a faint idea of what it does but im not 100% also how hard or easy are the spring kit's to install on the pump? if any of you diesel nut's know i like to learn. thanks!

Both kits raise the rpm at which the P7100 defuels. Lots of opinions on how hard/easy to install.

Not too hard to install if you have some tools and patience. Pay close attention to the tension from the nuts. Follow the instructions carefully.

It's a slight PITA but well worth the trouble!

And It can become a real PITA if you have to adjust the governor lever after the install.

yeah, adjusting the lever sucks. installing is hard the first time only because you're probably scared of dropping shims, etc. it's no big deal with a magnet... i can change them in about 10 minutes. it's just more-or-less intimidating.

hey guys, i was on tst's web site and noticed that they recomend changing the plate to a #4 when you install the 3k.gov spring kit

why do they say this? can't you just stick with whatever plate you have? let me know what you all know. thanks!
