hey all - just got my tst 3k gov. spring kit today and i am choppin at the bit to install it. but ive got some questions that the instructions did not answer for me. first i hear that some kits have 6 springs? mine olny has 4. would the 6 spring be found in the 4k gov. spring kit? besides that ive read tst's instructions and the install doesen't seem all to complicated. but my question is tst goes in from the top of the afc housing to install the springs while i read that the majority who have installed the kit have one in from the side of the pump and was much easier to install? i did a search and couldn't find any threads that had some detailed info on going in from the side of the pump. if anyone knows a a site that has the install info for the side of the pump id like to know about it. and my last question is that tst recomends to install a #4 plate for a 180 hp pump. why is this? i have a #8 in it right now but it clearly says that if a #4 plate is not used engine performance could suffer dramatically? is this true? sorry for the long post but id like to do this install right the first time! don't we all:D ?! thanks!

4K's would have 6 total springs! Going through the side on the install is easier and a whole lot better feel for the spring tension feel and last on the plate I like the 10 over all of them, a #4 fuels real hard on the bottom and the 10 has a nice half moon fuel curve and is more linear.

WVsumeren - i went to prd thinkin they would have it too but i can't find it anywhere on their site? do you know what link it is under?!

info?

This would make an interesting post to read if anyone is interested in doing it. I would love to read it, for one. This is a mod on my list, along with #10 or 11. Anybody willing, & got the time? Don.

I have a GSK question......

I was reading my instructions for the 3K Gov. install and was wondering about something. When you have the plug removed and can see the springs inside, why do the instructions state that when you bar the engine over to "center" the spring for removal, it says to note the position and mark it. I am confused as to why you would note the position of the spring and mark it. I know you are supposed to take a measurement from the top of the adjusting nut to the top of the stud, but what and where would you mark a spot on the spring when you bar the engine over to get the spring centered?? Can't you just turn the engine over and eye ball the spring assembly for the best postion to remove them?? Please help, I want to make sure I am fully aware of everything before I start tearing into my injection pump. Thanks.

It sounds like you're suppose to mark the position of the crank, not the spring. That's how I interpret what you just said.

Yeah, thats what I thought at first but it shows a black and white picture on the install instructions of the top of the spring and it looks like they made a mark on the spring retainer.

But if your right, then another question I have is, if I roll the engine over 180* then the other spring should be centered as well, right??

That is correct.

I see you have already installed the springs, but for others reading this thread I just wanted to clear up that then engine needs to be rolled 360 degrees to get the other set of springs into view.
