Just pulled my first load after installing the 3K GSK kit. RPM range is great. But I had to go down to 2nd for hills I've pulled quite handily in third before.

THE QUESTION IS - Will the governer lever adjustment bring me back into the power I had, or is that the trade off? I am trying to decide wheather to spend my time replacing the stock springs or doing the lever adjustment.

EGT's while pulling ind 2nd @ 2500 only got to 1000. Is this a clue of any sort? Previously while pulling hard in 3rd(1800-2000 RPMs) EGTs had to be watched. Now when pulling the same hills in 2nd EGTs are way down.

Any help and opinions would be appreciated.

Check the lever.

Also some cam plates don't respnd very well with the 3kgov springs. Call tst or piers and they should know wich cam plate works best.

just went to the #4 plate this year but i did have a #6 in it for a year the #4 plate is very hard on a stock transmission, lots of power in the mid range.

I would give Piers, Harry or Mark @ PDR a call, just had them do the 3k GSK on mine and put in a TST #10 plate - which they said is a great combo for my application, so far, I'm lovin the combination, however - I have not yet had a chance to tow the 10K 5vr.

I have a lot of confidence in the PDR Team and anticipate that this combo will strike a fine balance of power while maintaining manageble EGT's.

Since adding the 3K GSK & #10 plate, the truck has really woke up, seems to run much stronger, it's faster and runs cleaner (not as much smoke - ie; over fueling). Seems much smoother and even sounds healthier.

PDR won't steer you wrong and IMHO the are THE BEST at what they do.

Tschwab,

I agree with everything you said, the only problem is while towing. Empty it runs like a striped a** ape. Towing on the flats is fine, towing in rolling hills @ 40- 50 is good, but pulling any grade it immediately goes flat. Also fuel mileage went south.

I have very little smoke, and the idle only increased by 25-50 RPMS, which as I understand indicates proper installation

I have talked to Mark @ Piers and he has given me some suggestions. If they don't get it back to where it was prior to the GSK, its coming out.

When you tow something somewhat heavy I'd be interested in your findings. Towing is the most important application for me. Other than that it mostly sits in the shop.
