Which one do you guys think is the best all around kit. The 3k or 4k. I'm running a '96 Dodge 2500 5spd. I think it has a 12 plate. Dyno'd at 273 @ 716 w/ 38max boost. I already have boost and egt gauges and an open exhaust w/ 4" stacks. I'm planning an upgrade soon and I'm looking for suggestions...

--Buy now--

KPD Fix

3K or 4k GSK

Heavy Duty Exh valve springs

#10 plate

--Spring time before summer pulling ---

SB DD Clutch

Bigger Input Shaft

Let me know what you guys think... Thanks

Since you plan on pulling a sled, the 4k kit may be the best way to go.

It IS the best way to go! ;) I pulled twice last year on stock Gov. springs tightened down (previous owner  ), and then twice with 4K GSK installed. You will DEFINATELY know the difference.

(dail up be warned, best to right click/save target as guys ;) )

Here's a vid with stock GS's cranked down... . it would spin to 4,000RPM's but was not getting full fuel past 3,000RPM's.

Stock Governor Springs Pull

Here's a vid with 4K GSK (and laser cut DV's added). It will spin to 4400-4500 now and is definately getting full fuel!

4K GSK's & Laser Cut DV's Oo. :-laf

might have been a mix up. i orderes the 4k kit without the springs originally. it was only 5 bucks more for the little spring.

I personally dont recomend the 4000 kit for a daly driver, it puts too much stress on the engine and the pump, they where not designed to run that fast.

if you don't have your foot planted in it holding out untill 4,000 every where you go, you would never know you had 4,000 gsk, nor would your motor untill you spun it up that far. do it right the first time get the 4,000gsk.

Yeah but there is a very noticable surge in the lower RPM's while crusing around town. If you try and stay in it the truck will tend to buck back and forth. Just takes some getting used to, but I run a 4K GSK in mine everyday no probs here. ;)

If you want to, try to back the springs off 1 click each side then adjust the idle. I don't know about your pump but this helps mine. If I have mine setup this way it too touchy in lockup in any gear other than 4th.

Does it spin that high because of the laser cut DVs or did you have to tighten the spings up a bit?

Every 4K GSK I've seen put in a 215 pump will spin 4400-4500RPM.

Buddy of mine has a 94 5spd w/215 Pump and he can spin 4400-4500 just like me. ;) I used to do it to show off to my buddies..... wound her up to 44-4500RPM while sitting still in a parking lot..... must have done it 6 or 7 times. Well got the 'ol camera out to record it one day and it decided to slip timing on me when coming back down for top RPM. #@$%!  :{ So now I leave winding up that high to when I'm hooked to the sled.

Thanks Jim but I'm not planning on fooling with those GS's again until I can pull the pump and have it looked at. We bent a gov. stud when installing them (springs weren't fully seated and we spun the pump over  :{ ), and just bent it back enough to get the springs in and retainers on and it was touch & go with the idle setting. Also ever since the above incident pump hasn't sounded to 100% ok..... but its held up to 2 pulls since then.

Oh well... when I get the $$ to do it. .

I haven't installed mine yet, waiting for a nice weekend. A friend of mine had his put in a while ago but he can't get it past 4,000 rpm. Maybe installed wrong? Also when he revs it up that high it won't cpme back down more than about 1500 rpm unless he puts it in gear and slowly lets out the clutch a little. I just want mine to behave properly when I put it in.

Sounds like his idle is too high I believe.

Call Piers and discuss it with him he is the man when it comes to this stuff.
