What are the pros and cons of the gov spring kit,i have got a 98 5spd with the #11plate and it revs to about 3000rpm now do some not rev this high from the factory,is there anything for me to gain?Thanks Jason :)

I thought mine revved to nearly 3k too, but the pros tell me my tach is off. If you have enough fuel, it will go past 3k with the kit. Piers says the stock valve springs are good to about 3400. It makes bottom - mid range fueling more aggressive and better throttle response. It's TERRIFIC!!! My mpg suffered a bit until I got back to driving like a human again! It's absolutely wonderful for towing, to overcome the big 2nd-3rd and 3rd-4th gaps. If you don't tow, it's still great for racing - legally, of coarse! Right! The only downfall I noticed is, top end power didn't feel proportionate to low and mid range even though it was still strong as ever. I was a little underfueled on top anyway, so I fixed that problem in my fuel plate. I had an 11 - now I have something between an 8 and 11 but it's not a 10. A 9 I guess! Craig

The 3k kit makes the truck much more enjoyable to drive. Pulls the same at 3000rpm as it does at 2000. The engine will rev WAY above 3000 (but I wouldn't recommend it) ;)

I'm such a huge fan of Piers' governor spring kit that I've vowed to go on a crusade... . every P7100 on Earth should have his springs in it. :cool:

Honestly, the truck drives so nice with the kit..... I recommend it as being the 1st BOMB anyone does to their truck besides gauges... those should be 1st.

Give Piers a call @ 604-853-9396 and order up a kit... . other than messing with the camplate... . the springs will produce the most significant gain in performance/driveability per $ spent.

I noticed that you don't feel de-fueling before cutoff with the gov springs. You just run hard. :)

Eliminating that de-fueling is important when you need that pull @ those rpm ranges. You just never know who's getting smoked. :D In addition, I found that as I added more fuel, it accelerates so fast it seems like I just got it into gear & had to shift again! Nice problem to have. Oo.

Piers has'em on sale right now. (49. 99) I'm thinking of buying a set along with a pacbrake. That being the other plus, allows for more rhp. Is the spring kit hard to install? What special tools will I need?

I believe the springs that are on sale are the 60# exhaust springs. Not the Governor spring kit. Site is having problems right now so I can't check to be sure.

Mine's on the way as we speak. I really need more bottom end. :D :eek:

I've just put in the gov. springs and I love it!!! I'm just curious, I'm willing to spend another $60, what will the exhaust springs do for me???

gov.springs

Which springs did you go with Corey? I've been thinking about the 3000#. My transmission is stock as of yet! JPS

I got the 3k RMP gov. springs for the 94 Auto. I've got a full DTT kit in my trans, and I'm loving it! This truck keeps getting better & Better!

Mine's on the way as well, along with a #4 plate. I'm so excited I'm giddy :D :D :D Can't wait to put it in. Going to Vegas this weekend for the race, so it's probably better that I don't have it yet. Highway Patrol might take a dim view of me trying to hit 190 MPH on I-15... ... :--)

<hr>

Adding just the exhaust springs is for getting the most braking power from your exhaust brake.

You need heavy duty springs installed on both intake and exhaust valves to go to higher RPM levels. Call Piers if you want to change from the 3k to 4k setup.
