I have to hook up a 3rd brake light on my cap to pass inspection.

Where's the best place to tap into the brake light wiring?

TIA

Eric

Check under the backend of the bed in the wiring harness, there should be a single white wire hanging out with a label on it marked for third brake light. At least there is one on my truck.

Mine is a 1998, I hope it's there.

Thanks. I tried the trailer wiring socket, but it flashed with the turn signal. :{

Thanks again.

Eric

You'll have easy access to the stoplight wire by removing the left tail-light assembly. I'm not sure if that's the best place or not, but it's easy to access (a couple of screws) and you'll have a fairly short run from there to the top of your cap.

I tapped into my left tail light, no "wonder wire" on the '95. Yes, it blinks with the left turn signal. I like it. :cool: Grabs your attention when your turning. I've thought about wiring in a couple of diodes and hooking it up to my right turn signal, too.

Yup. Mine was tagged "CHMSL". :D

I wouldnt care about the blinking, but they failed me @ inspection for just that. :mad:

They didnt care that the cat was missing, or that my tires are "just about there", or that the starwheel was pretty tight. :D

The blinking stoplight caught their attention. :rolleyes:

Well at any rate it was a full 3 minute job, and I now am good to go for another 2 years as far as inspection goes. :D

I'm glad they didnt look too good at the tires, that would have been about $800. :eek: NJ is historic for being PITA's about inspection. It could have been much worse. :D

The guys who installed my shell wired to the left brake light(permanently). I didn't like that poor job that so called professionals did with it- cheap connectors, permanent wiring instead of a plug, and both bulbs in the 3rd brake light flashing on a left hand turn. So, I rewired it myself, separating the two bulbs to have their own individual wires. I used a trailer style 3 prong plug. Now each side of the lamp flashes with its matching tail light, and the brake lights work as well. :D This is on my '96. I didn't see a CHMSL but that doesn't mean it isn't there. :D
