had my rear glass removed and replaced with new seals and with the soap bottle it is still showing the new 3rd brake lite leaking. anyone have a good solid fix for this thing?

thanks.

scott.

You can use SIlicone, but the problem is Silicone is like Glue, and it will be difficult to remove the brake light to change the bulb and when you do, you will have clumped up Silicone that does not peel off or come off with solvent. What i am waiting for is an LED bulb that fits the third brake light housing and then silicone it since LED's will outlast the truck so i wont have to change it anytime soon.

Leaking 3rd Brake lite

I finally got mad at it, pulled the light assy. put a bead of clear RTV around it, and put it back. I know I'll pay if I have to change a bulb, but thats an oh well!

when i went to the local stealer to get my 3rd lite, they said they had sold 18 for the month of july. . wow!

i think the problem is the design. as is most of the crap on my truck that is broken or falling off (paint, etc. )..... they should have designed the lite with more screws so that the lite wouldn't warp when you only have the 2 screws in.

I replaced mine about a month ago, and it has worked fine. I didnt overtighten it, because those gaskets look so thin and flimsy, I wanted a little room for them to give. The original lasted 2 years and was flat as paper when removed.

I was in a hurry to get it fixed, so I went with an OEM gasket. The next time I might get clear silicone, put a fine bead around the entire light fixture, and let it dry overnight before putting it back on. Would this work?? Would this keep it from sticking like glue when it needed to be removed again??

Mine also leaked, The dealer installed a new one. If I had to fix it myself I would use a light coat of silicone I would also install new light bulbs first:D
