Three visits, two dealers, still incorrect speedometer reading. Why is this difficult?

I needed to change the settings - speedometer, odometer, and trip computer - for my larger tire size of 285-65-18. These happen to have 634 revolutions per mile. The DRB tool is used to make this change, and is supposed to be a straightforward process. Dealer asked me to bring it in again (for a fourth time), but had no idea why they can't get it right. After the first of three attempts at reprogramming, it consistenty shows 10 to 20 mph higher than I am actually going.

Is there some trick to getting this to change? On the second of three attempts, we tried to set it back to the stock tire size, but it continued to read higher than I was actually going. Getting frustrating.

maybe not so simple

I left the dealership last night thinking it would be done. Tech told me "When I went in, nothing was there", and further explained that the previous attempts had failed because they forgot to "apply" or "open" the new settings after the initial programming steps. So far so good.

Leaving the dealership in traffic moving at 45 mph or so, my speedo says 68-70 mph. Arrrrrgg...

On the dyno 2 weeks ago, speedo shows 115, but dyno says 95 mph. So dyno run terminated at 2,7XX rpm, before peak hp number (and possibly torque) can be reached! So, of course I'd like to get this reset, and my odo reading will stop spinning like a one-arm-bandit!

Tech Assistance

DPKetchum,

You've given me a good game plan, Thank you. That is what I will do!

Anyone know why this wasn't a routine service issue?

You'll find out when they call STAR. Some shops had a hard time turing on DRL's and they were missing a step with the DRB or not enabling them at the end. If there is a problem at least they can call and find out why. I'm surprised they didn't call sooner. Thats why there is a tech assistance line. Heck I was just a lowly service advisor at the D. C. dealer I worked at and I called them a fair amount and picked their brain on problems and questions. Some techs will tell you their not any real help,I found they knew a whole hell of a lot more about the product then I'd ever hope to.
