Hi, I'm looking for some help with my transmission. I have the nv4500 in my truck and a week ago the truck while in 3rd gear would pop out of gear while under throttle mainly when I would get on it moderately hard. After that I began babying it not hammering throttle or anything. I got it home and checked the fluid level and found out it was low but not extremely low. I filled it with the recommended fluid and let it run a little bit and then didn't drive it all weekend. Now Monday morning after this weekend I was driving to school and third gear became unusable it will not stay in gear under any load at all. I'm unsure of what would be causing this any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I went through a dozen (no exaggeration) NV4500s but I can't tell you exactly is wrong with your trans. I can tell you that once they start misbehaving total failure soon follows. If you put your location in your screen name box someone in your area might suggest a good repair shop.

IIRC from my '88 F150, if the shift 'tower' parts become worn, it doesn't shift right (probably doesn't shift completely) and, thus, can/will pop out of gear. It could also be shift forks inside that are worn, also not shifting fully into the gear.

Yes the springs in the shift tower can get weak this will cause it to pop out of gear . A lot of times a broken spring under the strut that locks the shift collar into place causes them to pop out easy to replace but you have to pull the trans and disassemble it far enough to get to the spring so you might as well freshen it up while your in there I've yet to see a decent Reman offered by anybody

Enough to know they are complete junk go find my nv4500 thread and see the replies it's made out of China junk parts like any other Reman

Standard uses junk Chinese parts like everybody else the main shafts are fully splined but they are junk quality . If you want decent parts call quad 4x4 in Montana I think they are torque king now dan use to rebuild em but last time I checked he won't any more but he'll sell you the parts to do it right

Were any of those from Standard Transmission?

Nick

Every one of them. I guess the original transmission was full of junk Chinese parts too. It couldn't possibly be that I over stressed them by pushing them well beyond their design limits.:-laf

Do you honestly think that quad 4X4 and Standard Transmission have different sources for parts?

Quad 4x4 bought new transmissions to disassemble and sell parts when new venture was still in business. there is no comparison between quad 4x4 and china standard

Here is a link, scroll down to the third selection, Cases and Housings. I use a lot of their parts because they do have most of the original stuff, they are out of some popular items.

Well I see it but have trouble believing it. Was the market for complete new transmissions so bad that they are disassembled and used for parts? Given the option, back when I still had a NV4500, a new one would have made a lot more sense than a reman with a few new parts. However, I stand corrected.

Edit; Just cruised through the gears. Not surprisingly, a lot more of them are imported than made in the USA. Now where do you suppose they were imported from?

Yes even he's getting low on the good stuff . People just refuse to believe that all parts aren't the same . just becuse china standard uses junk and builds junk everybody else must to

I'm not going to ask why you have a hard-on for Standard Transmission. I'll continue going there and recommending them. In case you aren't aware, Chinese made doesn't automatically mean poor quality anyway. My genuine Cummins lift pump, sold by Genos, is Chines made and has been working well for over 300,000 miles, just as long as the US made Carter pumps I've had. It sucks that US companies go overseas for their production, but just as Quad 4X4 has done, if those are the only parts available, that is what we are stuck with.
