Has anyone looked into the pros and cons of using the newer wheels on our 2nd Gen trucks? I have a bent rim and it's time for new tires and the new wheels are looking pretty sharp these days. I have seen somewhere that the aluminum wheels need a little taken off the inside because of there thickness.

the latter 2nd gen alloys won't fit on the earlier models without turning down the drums. They are 16" rims. I have not heard anything yet about the third gen alloy wheels which are 17". Shouldn't have the drum problem as the 17s have a larger diam. giving more room to the brakes. Anyone who has done this already chime in. I've been considering this too but since I got new tires today, I'm going to have to wait a little while.

Thanks EBansberg for the post. I was about to decide no one had ever considered this. I had read about the newer 16's being a problem and thought maybe the 17's might work. I believe the newer ones have a deeper offset but would think there's enough room for an 1" or so on the inside before getting into trouble. Still find it hard to believe no one out in TDR Land has tried this.

Finally I get some peace of mind on this. I've been watering at the mouth looking at the new OEM wheels but didn't want to buy something that wouldn't work. Have you got some pics you could post? :D
