Looking to buy a used 3rd gen truck with a 5. 9 and a 6-speed. What years do you guys think I should look for 04-early 07???? pros and cons Thanks for the Info!

well, if i had to do it all over.....

i would probably buy a 2005. seems as though the 06 and up, are, when looking to upgrade the turbo run a little more than the pre-06 models. however, i am totally happy with my 2006. i had an 04, which i used for work, i installed a 'top-dog', K&P transmission (47re), upgraded the air, exhaust and added a edge ez, and it really worked well for me. i pulled a trailer 4x a week, average load was about 12,000lbs. yes, it was a load, but it really worked well, ran maybe 1,300 egt's up hills, pedal through the floor. when it says cummins, i dont think you can go wrong!Oo.

I'd go for the 04 and add a Smarty Jr. Fuel pump on 04's was still on the filter, so if it has not been changed would look at relocating w/aftermarket. Most get better fuel mileage w/04's as well.

I found a 2007 5. 9 that was built in December 2006. It has the later ratio 6 spd. It is the same ratio 6th that is used with the 6. 7. The NV 5600 has a . 72 6th gear. The early G56 has a . 79 6th gear. I think mine has a . 73 6th gear.
I love the G56 trans. It is like shifting a car trans.
