3rd Gen bed size?

Does anyone know if the long bed dimensions (width and length) of the 03' trucks is the same as the 2nd gen trucks? I may want to re-use the roll top bed cover on my 02' if it doesnt sell with the truck, but will it fit?? Thanks, Sarge

Sarge, not much chance it's gonna fit. I don't recall the exact numbers but the longbed trucks have longer beds, and the shortbeds have shorter beds. Funny huh? The difference is a couple of inches in each case.

Both 2nd gen and 3rd gen long box's are ~8' long, but the exact dimensions are probably slightly different. Width may change also. Dimensions for the 2nd gen can be found at http://www.klenger.net/dodge/2001/dimensions.html

I put a canopy from my '01 LB on my '03. The inside width is very close to the same, the length is a little bit longer on the '03. Not sure if it is longer inside or just the tailgate thicker, but it barely seals on the front. Not sure how critical a roll cover is - but I'd think there is a decent chance of it working, although maybe not looking perfect.

The new beds are tapered (rails are wider in the front than the rear). My Roll-N-Lock came with adaptor pieces to make the rails "parallel. Maybe you can just purchase the adaptors (although I am not sure what the resultant width is).

Thanks for the input guys. Maybe someone could put a tape measure on it for me and give me the inside dimensions? The roll top cover allows for a minimal amount of adjustment, but i'm not sure how much. Thanks for your help... ... . Sarge

I measured mine and got 65. 25 on the front and 62 on the rear. I have box rails (plastic) that take up probably an 1/8th of an inch per side, so I would add 1/4" to these measurements.

I checked the dimension at the back of my 01', it measured 63 1/2 inches. That is exactly one inch wider than Dave's 03'. The rails on my roll top adjust in and out to compensate for the angled bed on the Dodge. I will have to check to see if it will shrink a half inch on each side. Thanks again everyone. Marty
