Heat was my concern with the MkII model since I bought it. My MkIIG doesn't seem to get as hot and I don't remember my original 706 getting that hot either. I put heat sinks on the cover of the MkII to disperse that heat and it stays cool to the touch now. You can find the article I wrote in eHam.com and in September 2004 World Radio magazine. So now I don't worry about the heat while under the middle seat.

Thanks Bob!

Got the mount Friday afternoon. Too bag my truck was getting it's Line-X. Saturday installed my BACKRACK, moved my MX-7000 Lightbar and CB Antenna. Sundays plan Mount my CB Radio and Amp and maybe a FEW other toys into the New Ram from the old '95. Thanks Big Bob for a well designed and manufactured CB Mount. I like the one you sold me... . It's one of a Kind :)

Also Thanks with the other questions I have asked I really think it will make my truck better in the long run!

Running cables into cab?

Hi guys,

Nice to see there are more radio around on the board here! I'm a new Dodge owner, and looking forward to mounting my IC-706 MkIIG in the cab, but so far I've been afraid to drill any holes til I feel like I know what I'm doing.

So what's the best way to lead power cables and coax cables in/out of the cab without losing the tight airseal of the cab?

Also, wondering what your experiences have been with electronic noise from the engine/computer. Should I look forward to having to do any noise reduction work, like shielding plugs or chokes like on some of the older trucks?

Thanks!

where to put the radio......

I put my radio under the center console with a Z-100 auto tuner. I put the remote head on the dash in front of the steering wheel and a QPS beside that. I fused the Pos side and then fed the Pos & Grd wiring from the battery thru the driver side fender and then thru the rubber grommet that is between the hinges, into the driver compartment and then down to the edge of the cab and under the driver seat to the center console. I fed the HF & 2 meter coax cables to the back in between the rear seat and thru two 3/8" holes I drilled thru the floor. Then I fed the coax cables to the rear of the cab outside. I have had NO problems with electrical noise or interference.

Big Bob's Mounts are solid and well built. You sould never have a problem with them. Almost as solidly built as our engines are :))
