3rd Gen Coolant Filter Kit

I recently became interested in the possibility of using a coolant filter. I found this one and it looks very affordable.

Well, "not very" is about the best answer I can come up with. A search in here indicates almost no one is using one. The idea is that they're really unnecessary, since we don't have the liner pitting and cavitation problems that the 7. 3 Powerstroke has.



Nevertheless, I'm toying with the idea of using one to filter out dirt that enters through that giant hole in the coolant reservoir. I just wanted to see what other 3rd gen owners think about it.

I use them on the Fords that I have... On the dodges they use the extended coolant... so we add that back and use distilled water only... . I don't expect to have problems with these engines... .



I expect to add a modifier to the coolant and change it... but with the extended life coolant and distilled water I believe I have the system protected...

I also use only distilled water in my cooling systems.

I used these things for years on my Ford diesels. I used a filter that had the FW16 coolant additive built into the filter in a solid form that lasted about 30k miles) These filters can also increace the life of your water pump, as you would be suprised at how much sand (left over from the casting processes)and junk is flowing around in there... I purchased a kit for my o3, just waiting til spring to install it...

I could not get your link to open, but if you are a do it your self type of guy go to NAPA. You can get everything you need pretty cheap. The Filter base is part #4019 and the coolant filter is part#4071. From here all you need is the fittings to plum it in. Hope this helps

Just get a 3/4" brass strainer with a stainless screen and put in a heater hose. It will continuously filter and you can drain it without taking it out.

Anytime Ryan, also while I'm thinking about it the 4071 filter already has the coolant additive in it. We change ours about every 7,000 miles.
