WOW!!!! Don't know why I waited 3 months to get this thing! Talk about a time saver! I want to go drive around and empty the tank just so I can fill it up again! My wife used to gripe about going with me to fill up. This time she was like, "That's it? You're finished?" I think she is as happy about it as I am.
I used to DRIBBLE about 7 more gallons in after it clicked off the first time (fuel would be up to the top of the filler neck). Tonight I added about 1 more gallon at about half the pump flow rate. Thanks alot Dave (a. k. a. -Spooled-Up) for your work in putting this kit together.
I received the kit last week and spent the last 2 mornings driving around burning up fuel so I could get it installed in today ahead of a trip I have to take to Atlanta later this week. I'll tell you this, I drove about 4 or 5 miles past when the DTE indicator hit 0 and there was about 6-7 gallons of fuel left in the tank (filled one 5 gal bucket and a second about 1/3 full when I drained the tank). I put that same 6-7 gallons back in the tank to go to the filling station (6 miles away) and crammed another 36. 5 gallons in the tank. That makes about 42 gallons of fuel.
The install was pretty easy, biggest pain was getting the middle fuel line off. I think I cussed every engineer at DC and anyone else that I could think of. That and getting the retaining ring back on the fuel sending unit (had to hit it with a heat gun per the instructions). It took me probably about 2 hours of actual work to get it done by myself (wife helped me dump the tank once I dropped it). I of course had to wash the tank off and clean the tank straps and everything so in reality it took me about 5 or 6 hours to complete it.
I made one modification to the install. Instead of leaving the factory vent line on and capping it, I cut a short piece of the new hose off (maybe 4 inches or so) and put the cap in that. Then I removed/replaced the factory vent line with that. I also ran the vent line inside the frame rails above the top of the fuel tank.
Thanks again Dave for a great job with the kit. Nice kit, great instructions.
Those of you still taking 20 minutes to fill up your trucks NEED this kit!
