3rd gen guys with DTT

I going to be getting my fully loaded DTT transmission done in march I'm having John Issac at Floor It Diesel do the install and I can't wait. He is also putting in a DPP 150 gph pusher in at the same time. Anyway, just wanted to ask any of you 3rd gen guys who have one, how you like it and what can I expect when I jump in the drivers seat and pull away form his shop? Getting very excited and can't wait until March gets here.

It really cool, the rig wont feel like it's reving and not going anywhere. Also 2nd gear shifts are nice and tight. It will take a little time to get used for daily driving to but once you do you can't go back!

On the downside I saw 50-75 deg higher egts w/stock turbo and banks 6-gun while accelerating. A little slower turbo spool, and the 3rd to 2nd/1st shift is often an annoying thunk. If I manually put the trans in second while slowing down the shift is much smoother.



I think you will be very happy with the trans. I have now put 30k on my DTT trans and when I drive other auto trans vehicles (gassers) they feel ridiculously mushy. I sure wouldn't go back.

I recently drove a buddy's '05 48re and was impressed with the improvement in the 48re over the 47re. However,RMalones' evaluation is right on the money. Minor irritation has been the 2nd to 1st minor clunk. Guys who drive mine immediately comment" wow it just takes off" Moderate to full throttle shifts are positive with 4th to overdrive very firm with no mush or shudder as before.

The one thing that I haven't seen brought up here yet is how much less wear takes place once you have the DTT treatment Drop the pan on a stocker and you will see a lot of clutch material drop one on Bill's... ... ..... much cleaner.

does anyone have pic of dtt input shaft install. Will be up grading soon and would like to do my self. No good transmission shop close. Have done everything else my self. Valve body , servo, piston, and band strut.

Okay, what about if you're keeping the engine/fuel delivery stock (i. e. no box)? Is it a worthy upgrade with everything else stock?

I would say that yes it is a worthwhile upgrade, even with stock fuel. If you don't really "need" the added durability find a stock truck with an aftermarket transmission and drive a few miles you'll know whether or you "want" one right away.

On a stock truck, what would be the benefits? Durability, Drivability, Improved 0-60/Acceleration, better towning (e. g. hold 4th longer? Move the load easier??)... . I'm pretty ignorant on beefed up transmission's so excuse if the question is "stupid"...

I love the DTT trans. Bob is right about dropping the pan, I have 45,000 miles on mine and every fluid change has been clean. I also like how positive it is at idle, lift your foot off the break and the truck takes off.

You'll need a couple of trips to the ATM! The DTT runs a tad under $4,000 plus install.

Once I get my DTT installed, can I have my installer use Amsoil right away, or is there a specific transmission fluid they recommend? Just need to know if I need to make an order.

yes you can but for the first oil change 5-10k i would use atf+4 because its going to have alot of breakin metal, change the filter too! :-laf

Sweet reading & information. I'm sold on the DTT, my stock 48Re can handle settings 1,2 & 3 from the Edge, but 4th & 5th are seriously mushy and slip. Do you guys notice any slip on the higher settings with the DTT?

Oh no, it wont slip!! As for trans-fluid my DTT installer uses merconIII, go figure.
