Like the title says...
WHO has put a 3rd gen 24V head on a 2nd gen 24V block (VP equipped) I know Adam Winslet (sp) has done this on his but I need to find a way to get ahold of him or anyone else that has done this. Anyone with information please post up!
The intake is a mess!! here are some pics... you can see the head sticks into the intake side!! I never knew this and the bottom of the intake valley cover (not sure what else to call it) is a mess as well!!! I'll take all the casting bridges out of it since Im not sure if they are for structural stability or not... I dont think so but correct me if Im wrong. I think If I can get the head to a mill I will removed the head material that sticks out into the intake side.
Ill also use some sanding disks to smooth out the intake side of the head as well as remove the casting numbers for some more flow...
As far as a modified intake Im pretty stuck with the factory since the fuel lines will be in the way to do anything like a banks dual intake (for the 12V's) I guess your best bet is to fab up a swanker intake like I did to help the flow from the intake horn and remove the heater grid in the summer.
I had asked awhile back about throwing a 3rd gen MLS head gasket onto a 24V and was told it could not work because there are different oil passages in the heads. I am not sure if you 06' head will work on your block!
I have my stock 24V gasket setting on the 3rd gen head and its a direct line up... both heads are upside down next to eachother and Ive yet to find the difference.
Biggest benefit is air flow and the "Connecting tubes" on a 3rd gen are . 0120 with check ball so it will idle fine and Ill still have a lot of fuel!!! Oo.
on another board they guessed 30-50 hp gain... I dont know if I buy into that much but it has to be a something!! Id like to get my drive pressure and boost to be 1:1 so this will hopefully even the playing field with my twins
Here are pics of the water ports that I opened up a little bit. I layed the 2nd gen gasket on the heads and traced out where the block protruded into the open gasket part with a sharpie:
Picked up the head today from being ported and polished, it turned out great!! this sucker should flow a lot betterOo. well worth the money if you have your head off!!
prepped and primed, Ive got one more coat of primer to shoot then its time for the paint Im using VHT high temp paint. Primer is good to 1200* and the gloss black is good to 950* the clear coat is good to 1200*

You can see the bottom of the intake valley cover once we milled the ribs off and gave it a quick buff.
I thought about that but I think for stability Im going to leave those since there is a little bit of pressure from the intake horn and heater grid on them.
I have had zero issues, running ported stock horn and factory grid @ 47psi for the past year. Sadly, I think that radius is the most important part of that mod.
who did the head porting and approx. how much $ ? 3 or 5 angle?
