My brother-in-law is looking for a 3rd gen in Minnesota. They just got a fifth wheel, and now need a tow vehicle. He bought a used Duramax and after a week it turned out to be a dud. The seller agreed and gave him his money back. I'm telling him to go Ram, I'm recommending one with the NV5600, but he wants an automatic. Which is better for snow plowing? He wants to get a plow to take care of his driveway.

Wants:

4x4

Quad cab

Long Bed

No rust

Tell him to shop in Texas, New Mexico, etc. The south and southwest are "truck states" where they are common, not rusted, and priced right for a wise shopper.

Lot of TDR members seeking a good used truck have shopped outside their market and found what they were looking for. Finding a good truck would be worth the trip.

I agree with shopping the SW.

Is there a particular 3rd gen he wants? Many different power options.

Good idea. I forwarded him a link to the TDR. I don't know which particular 3rd gen he wants. I even put the bug in his ear about looking for a late 2nd gen 12V that's in good shape. Of course, I'm partial to that!

Yep look elsewhere. . But if I see or here of a decent truck I will let you know,Blaine Dodge had a nice clean 04 with 65k a few weeks back it lasted 2 Days on the lot and sold for $18. 5

The auto trans is much nicer to plow with but if he only plows his own driveway anything will do. Many years ago commercial plowing caused the automatics to overheat without additional trans coolers but that does not seem to be a issue anymore.

I find that most trucks in the SW are not 4 x 4.

There are thousands of them in the SW but as a percentage of trucks sold there are less 4x4s here than in the northern states with heavy annual snow loads.

I just noticed the C-Dory in your signature. The 25' you own is one hell of a boat. I have lusted for a C-Dory since I ran across a feature article and test report on a C-Dory 22' in a boating magazine 20 years ago. I have crawled in, over, and around them at boat dealers in the Pacific NW and AK. I stop and admire them whenever I see one which is a very rare event here in West Texas. As bodies of water go, we don't have anything larger than mud puddles near me. If I lived in the Pacific NW again or any region with lots of deep water I would definitely own a C-Dory.

I live in MN and have had good luck on Car Soup along with AutoTrader. I found my 03 on car soup advertised for Burnsville Dodge. The internet is very handy for cost and comparing. Helps with negotiating. Good Luck. Happy Shopping.
