Hello,

I have a 1991 W250 regular cab pickup, and I also have a 40/20/40 seat from a 2002 3500 quad cab. I'd like to adapt the seat to the 91 pickup, and wondered if anyone has made the conversion. If so, suggestions on what is needed would be very helpful. I could certainly figure it out on my own, but it's always nice to have some idea of what to do before getting out the tools. OK, so I'm lazy, and want to make it as easy as possible!

I know that it is possible that the seats may not move forward much to use the area behind them as storage, but that should not be much of a problem. Another consideration will be wiring the electric actuators into the vehicle power distribution, which I can probably figure out through trial and error. Advice on that would be helpful, though, since again, I am lazy.

It seems that a lot of people like the 2nd gen seats a lot better, from what I have read, but the price was right on these, I like the adjustable headrests on the 2002, and anything is better than what is currently in there.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer!

Cheers,

Mark

I put 1997 Gen 2 seat in my Gen 1 truck right after I got the truck home. I put in a full set of 40/20/40 power leather seats. What I did was measured out the seats on the floor so that they were centered. I then started by mount the out side seat bracket first and used the factory seat mounting hole (bench seat) as a reference point. You will not be able to use that mounting hole, but it will work for reference from side to side to get them even with the dash. You will have drill new holes for all of the brackets. I re-enforced the bottom side of the floor with a piece of 4" by 4" by 1/4" thick piece of metal for floor strength. Once you figure out were most of the holes go in the floor for mounting you will have to modify the inside seats bracket on the both passanger and driver seat as they will not fit the floor correctly. This took a little bit of time until I got the right angle on the bracket so that it would fit the floor and also support the seat both for level and strength. I did not have to modifiy the outside seat bracket on either passanger or drivers side seat. To get the outside bracket to bolt to the floor on the back bolt I have to bend the mounting ear to the angle of the floor and also had to build a spacer to get the seat sit level. I ran the power wire to a circuit breaker that wired directly off of the battery so that the seats have power and also saftey in case of a short. I have plent of forward and back movement as anyone can drive the truck with these seats. I can tell you that the seats a little wide for the Gen 1 truck and if doing this over I would also look at modfiyng all of the brackets a little lower so that you sit a little lower in the truck. I can say that I am not one bit upset with putting the seats in my truck, best addition I have done to my truck since getting it. Let me know if I can help in any way.
